Best vid on this topic! Be a terrible waste of time and money if replacing the module only to later discover suffiecent power to the module was the culprit! Today most shops don't do the troubleshooting but just replace. Yes TS costs the customer time in $$ but DIY is the way to go and could saves $$$$.

Thanks for the very informative video. I am watching it 5yrs after it was released but it still has very practical content and a wonderful well thought-out approach to that misfire problem. I actually came across the video as I was researching on the problems with the Lion 2.7 diesel since I am working on one that has a permanent misfire on cylinder {guess which?} yes cyl 2 just like yours . The only difference is that this one I am dealing with had interestingly lower compression on cylinder 2 compared to the other cylinders. Majority were at 380psi while the cylinder 2 was at 320psi a whole 60 psi difference. We have not as yet got to the point of removing the body so we can access the engine properly and carry out a proper inspection of the affected cylinder but to me it already is a sign of a mechanical issue causing our misfire due to low compression relative to all the rest. I can see a cylinder head job coming up one way or the other. Your approach was very good. Some in the garage where I was called to check on the car were really arguing about the timing being off etc but the mere fact that it has no delayed start at all but only the permanent misfire together with the low compression read out from cylinder 2 I now have some added confidence to give them my final submission in writing that they should remove the head on that side and do the needful. By the way what is the nominally accepted compression reading for this particular engine since I did not come across any technical manual to give me that data? Thanks for the very educative video. Why doesn't Toyota's have CAN BUS issues? Rust, yea, but I've never heard of a Toyota product with these kind of issues.

This might be helpful to someone....got given a d3 by a customer after his "mechanic " replaced the handbrake module because nothing would work after ,wouldn't start,wouldn't lock or unlock and the hazards came on with the ignition ....my diagnostic tool couldnt communicate with anything except body control module.....linked out the can bus cables to exclude the handbrake module and all ok

My , new to me, 2007 Se has new Chinese unit but the car will not crank, hazards flash , door lock cycle, and transmission error E, many codes. That's the reason they charge you the earth, messing about with diagnostics, basically knowing and having knowledge of the common error with range rover fuel pumps. Well, that's another £500 added to your bill! 😂

Analogue multi meters have their use in this case, always an easy way to give a small load, safely.

Hi Joe, 4 years on I found this video after fixing my 05 l322 that had the same problem. the HP injector pump senses the lack of pressure on its feed and if its just dropped a bit will put the engine into low power mode with the 'Fuel Injector Fault' on the dash, if the feed pressure drops any further it cuts the engine to stop the HP pump running dry. fixed in 30 mins with a new in tank pump! Also, thanks for the insight into the difference between the BMW and LR relays, my 03 has the BMW ones and the 05 has the LR ones!🤣

Because computer is not switching power to the fron and to the rear. Modul already replaced because old one been shorted

I know this is an old video, but seems odd that it would pick up all those triggers and then miss the tdc trigger which sends the higher voltage spike. In my uneducated mind, it seems electrical since the sensor had been reading to well. You may not even remember but was it in fact a sensor issue or wiring issue?

This landrover guy talking about saving customers money is a bit Ritch when he has just cheaply and quickly diagnosed a wrecked engin on an almost bring new Discovery 4 That is not economic to repair with a +7000£ bill for even a used motor that will do the same thing again at any time!!! Or snapp its crankshaft Wonderful car horrible engine Winder if you could get a Toyota engine under the hood???
