The diesel engines power generators. The electricity generated power the electric motors on the trucks. They are Diesel Electric, not Diesel locomotives.

I am a retired engineer from BNSF. Those trains that have several locomotives on the head end are being transported to another location. I usually set those unused locomotives to dynamic braking if they are capable. Even within the assigned consist there will be locomotives are ordered to be disabled, fuel savings. The train orders define which locomotives may be used. The railroad likes to utilize a ratio of 1.1 hp to 1.3 hp per ton. Some of those locomotives are mechanically defective and are destined for a maintenance facility and are tagged as such. To an outsider, it only appears these locomotives are required. To us, they are just another car along for the ride. The best use of those locomotives is for extra crewmen or deadheads that going back there and get some sleep!

Sehr schöne Aufnahmen. Viele interessante Zug Zusammenstellungen. Als Betreiber des Wiebe Zug freue ich mich natürlich, das er auch mal in anderen Aufnahmen auftaucht als in meinen eigenen.😊 Beste Grüße Harry

Das ist eine Lok nach Franco-Crosti System, da sitzt der Schornstein seitlich neben dem Kessel, siehe de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco-Crosti-Lokomotive

We were there in June 2024 and the train route to the village is beautiful. You hear the birds chirping. then for the beautiful images

Ja, das fällt auf und kann wohl bei LED Beleuchtungen passieren. Das Auge bemerkt das nicht und Glühlampen waren träge aber LEDs schwingen mit der Frequenz des Stromes und wenn das mit der Bildfrequenz interferiert, passiert dies. Habe ich auch erst zuhause gesehen, und dann war eine Wiederholung nicht mehr möglich.
