Wow, 5 months ago, before Helene. I am a local, been there a few times. I thank you for this because I am interested to see how the river changed. From looking at drone footage it looks like those rocks below the falls are gone. A lot of boulders here are simply gone. Lots of rivers and creeks here are cleaned down to the bedrock I will be going down to these falls as soon as it warms up. And as far as I know, there is no official name for this place. It was originally owned by the Owenby's. I cannot express how valuable this video is to me personally .. I thank ya. I

Thanks for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the video. When this video was first posted, I got a lot of flak because I was supposedly revealing a “secret.” I hardly consider an area where one might struggle to find parking a secret. It was a really nice spot, though-great in the summer. I imagine this whole section of the river might be unrecognizable after the storm. Maybe one day, I’ll try to make it back.

So is that landslide where the falls is supposed to be? Or did the falls survive and that’s the last video that is shown?

The landslide is before you reach the falls. The waterfall was not phased by the storm.

Am extremely grateful to all you content providers for helping this old lady understand the vast scope of this disaster. We live on the side of a mountain close to the French Broad about 12 miles from Marshall Marshall needs help. volunteers to help do physical work in rebuilding. Reclaim Madison is a good resource. Please share widely the listing of needs. Most charities need volunteers. Physical bodies doing work. Fema is still here. What folks dont realize how large the scop of the disaster is. Ive been posting these on my channels list under Helene. That way folks can understand what happened and how it is now My email is on channel. If there's anything we can do, perhaps folks will email me and tell me of people who haven't had their needs met Especially disabled and elderly as i am both and my heart is so worried for these folks. Before the disaster this population was ignored. So, im asking yall who can physically get out, to allow me to help by emailing me any needs. And you're welcome to give my email to folks . I will try to find help for those still struggling in bad circumstances . While my daughter and grandkids were found, dont know where they are. My bestie in Fairview still hasn't been located. By staying active, it keeps me from worry Thank you and God bless and thr good hearts here. This is how we should live, by giving whatever we have to help those who have nothing. Prayers are thought, thought is energy, energy is physics. May God bless all who put aside politics to be kind ❤ An old Cherokee Grandmother missing my daughter and grandkids.❤

😂 So if the reservoir above these devastated areas aren't there would there be a flood like this a simple Yes or no. Again if you remove these Man-made reservoirs would there be this amount of devastation? Again a simple yes or no.

The warming oceans, caused by human activity since the Industrial Revolution, brought this amount of rain to Appalachia. It’s going to happen again and again, in various places.

The devastation in western NC is horrific, as it was in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. The is still much help needed and work to be done to restore lives and businesses. As we enjoy the winter holidays, please include those impacted and the volunteers trying to assist in your prayers for comfort, safety and God's richest blessings in 2025.

Thank you for this video. Linville Gorge is my favorite place on this Earth and I've been wondering how bad a hit it took during Helene. Is the road to Table Rock open? Is the area around the Outward Bound school okay? I have not been up there in many years, but as a younger man in my 20's during the 1970's I spent a lot of time on both sides as well as down along the River. I've hiked every marked trail from the Cabin Trail south to Lake James and blazed a few when I got off the trail and was semi-lost down below the Chimneys. Two friends and I have day-hiked the full length of the Gorge from Pine Gap to the lake, only took us 18 hours of the most miserable glory I think I've ever experienced. I've actually driven to the top of Shortoff Mountain three times, back before vehicles were banned, in an FJ40 Land Cruiser. Twice from Wolf Pit Rd, and once from off NC 126 at the river bridge, up what we called "The Backside", which follows the river for a while before you cross it and start up the spine of the ridge, where it intersects the Wolf Pit trail about halfway up. I've been up Old NC105 when there was a foot of snow when we started from the bottom and it was coming down at an inch per hour. Took all afternoon and part of the night to make it to NC 181. The vista you showed at 5:46 is to me the most beautiful view in North Carolina and a sunset from the Brown Mtn Overlook back towards Table Rock seen edge-on, like at the end of the video cannot be beat. For the last couple of weeks I've thought of driving up Table Rock Rd from Fish Hatchery Rd to Gingercake, but wasn't sure it would be open. Looks like I might have to make the trip now. Thanks for opening up these memories.
