I feel like HOA's tyranny would in fact decrease the value of homes, because of the decreased demand for homes under them. Or at least the perceived inconvience of attempting to disband them or dealing with their bullshit on the daily basis.
@naomiemoore57255 ай бұрын
My neighborhood has sky rocketed in the last few years. I will never comply with rules mandated by an HOA. Until they pay the mortgage on the residence they don't get a say. There was an HOA community close by, they had to disband as the HOA and management company did so many things illegally and the homowners hired an attorney and sued. Nicer now than when there was an HOA. HOA's are a waste of money.

We got plenty of government as it is, who in their right mind would want more on a much more personal level? Fines for flat tires or long grass or the fence is painted the wrong color or you can’t have company over because you can’t park in the street, all it does is give unemployed Karen a reason to harass you

Never thought I'd buy in a community with an HOA was always starkly against them but I ended up doing it and my mind's really been changed. In my community there are specific architectural guidelines that must be followed It really does protect the character of the neighborhood. That was a big selling point for buying here because it specifically has a small town feel, and without the HOA there's no way you could guarantee that feel would remain. It allows me to feel confident that the neighborhood I bought into will remain the way I liked it when I bought into it.
@juniper-ug3hs5 ай бұрын
That's all well and good until 20 years later architectural styles change. Also building materials fluctuate in cost new products hit the market all the time. and it's not unreasonable to think that some people might want new and more durable roofing materials and siding that might improve property values, but might disturb the "character" so no fancy construction for you. I'm a pretty conservative person but that seems too close minded, even for me. I also wouldn't spend hundreds a month just to have clean sidewalks and maintain property values. I have 50 grand in equity and I didn't need to subject myself to an how to maintain property value

@stevecatpatrick80565 ай бұрын
@@juniper-ug3hs I wouldn't want to spend hundreds of month either, ours is I think $12 a month, and that's Canadian so think like $9 US. Plus it's a democracy right So you could always update it if there is a new cost saving material, It's more about architectural guidelines, houses are built in one of four acceptable styles, think Craftsman, have to have a front veranda and particularly shaped windows and such. Standardized fencing materials, etc. overall the HOA is a pretty light touch here it just maintains the idea of the neighborhood which is It's small town charm. It's pretty walkable because it has tighter streets, and a town center surrounded by row housing. I think there's a place for both types of neighborhoods I've lived in both. I've never heard of anyone getting fined for anything ours is mostly a cheap HOA that keeps a few things maintained and is an extra set of architectural guidelines before you renovate. We will never get modern infill Is that changes the character of the neighborhood, They would have to build within the architectural guidelines so that they look like they fit in to the neighborhood around then. Again I was very anti-HOA until I actually lived in this one and then I see that they can be actually pretty great.
@stevecatpatrick80565 ай бұрын
@@christopherborum6551 😓 That's one way to completely brush off any one who has a different opinion than you. I mean that is how it sounds but also I was staunchly anti HOA until actually living in One for the first time and owning my own place. Buying is a commitment and housing has high frictional costs to move. We have no intention of being those people who jump houses every 5 years which seems to be the trend now. We bought the home we plan to raise a family and retire in, and you're buying into the neighborhood as much as you are the house. I love that I live somewhere that is quite walkable and has a small town feel with more narrow streets and everyone having a front porch where They can just leave their bikes out and nobody snatches them, with actual alleys for the garages which is rare in new neighborhoods now instead of front garages everywhere. I really appreciate the idea of nobody being able to tell you what to do with your property I know I wouldn't want an overbearing HOA and if it got that way I would run for it or leave, But I really enjoy this one that is more about everyone joining the neighborhood having a mutual agreement on what the neighborhood should look like.
@juniper-ug3hs5 ай бұрын
@@stevecatpatrick8056 I'm glad that you've found a home you like, but I would still not live in a hoa. In the US most HOAs are not that cheap. Also, I don't think it's my business saying that your house needs to be the same architectural style as mine. And if you want a special fence or a deck, you need to appeal to a board made of people of your neighbors for permission. Nope, plus all it takes is a change of leadership for a cool hoa to turn into a terrible one. My uncle was forced to run for his hoa, because he was sick of the retiree gestapo with nothing better to do imposing fines on everyone
