great video! i have a question tho. so bought my si from a private seller, third gear had a minor grind but thought the clutch pedal just needed some adjustment. one day on the freeway my gears stopped working, well it was in the last gear i was in. After removing the gear selector shaft i noticed it was all apart, the bolt that hold things together fell somewhere inside. Do you think it is possible to fish it out from it or do you think the casing would need to be removed? Kinda would hate to remove the whole transmission just because of that bolt. I dont know if i would have to split the transmission apart to find it. Any hints or ideas would help. Thanks

It is possible but it is very difficult. I’ve had 2 people before in this position that were able to fish it out. If you had a borescope that would help to give you an idea where it may be and with a magnet you’d be able to retrieve it. Otherwise yes it will have to be removed .

@ once the C clip is opened, the countershaft gear stack normally fall down maybe 1/8th of an inch. Sometimes it doesn’t move and you have to crack the case up over it.

Yes it bolts right up to it. You will just need my bracket for the 9th gen tranny when you’re using it with the 8th gen chassis

You can do something similar with the top main shaft bearing if it gets stuck in the casing….This man is a life saver

@@lukeramoutar3419 for that I usually just tap the case on the ground a couple times and it drops right out. Or stick a bare Mainshaft inside the bearing and gently try to wiggle it out without having the bearing come apart.

Also, what would you recommend for a K swapped 8th gen civic with RSX type S Tranny? We just swapped the shifter mechanism from the RSX to 2015 Civic Si. Now we need a cable bracket to make it work.

Rsx shifter cables and bracket already bolt right up to the k20z3 transmission you just have to swap the shifter mechanism on the transmission to the Rsx one.

The K24z7 and K24z3 transmission are identical in case design. Both bolts up and have the same bolt pattern

So if I install this on my 9th gen si with gearx 1-4 my speedometer should read of off the stock vss location? It reads zero allowing me not to get vtec

No. The 9th Gen reads VSS completely different from 02-04 Rsx/02-05 Civic Si… Pretty much Digital vs Analog. Your car reads the VSS off of the 3rd gear. What’s happening is your VSS is either too far from the 3rd gear.. or it already touched and is damaged. You need to properly shim the VSS when you put in aftermarket gearset such as that one. Remove your shifter mechanism and look down in there and see how close or far the sensor is from the gear.

Oh man, I'm glad I found your channel. I'm running a K24z in a 2012 Accord and I'm researching on what manual trans I can use for this engine. No one is really making content discussing the Z engines. I'm gonna watch your trans swap video tomorrow. I want to do a 12 si 6 speed but they are high dollar. What about buying a K24z2 manual trans and dropping in the RSX type S gears into the case? I'm open for any help in the right direction.

Osric, you have a fantastic product and a great depth of knowledge. I plan on picking up this bracket from you as time progresses. What i wanted to know is, i have this K24Z7 trans that i will be pairing with a JDM K24A. Am I strictly limited to the 04-08 TSX cables and shifter box? Or would I be able to use the 03-07 Accord OEM Box 54100-SDA-A01? I ask because the TSX box is discontinued.

Honestly, I would just recommend getting the internals swapped over into the RSX casing. The rear mount will not bolt up and the only solution for the shifter cables is to purchase the K-Tuned Bracket for the Race Spec Cables and you have to swap out the shifter mechanism for the Type S one. And still find a solution for the rear mount/bracket situation

No. It will not work with the Tsx chassis for those years. The driver side mount will not match up.

@@tongtyyang yes you absolutely can. However be advised…… Your Cruise control will only work in like 3 years. 2 3 5 if I’m not mistaken. Certainly not 6th. The ratio is too far away from the OEM TSX 6th gear ratio and the RPM/Speed being put out won’t match what’s registered in the ECU for those gears since the ratios are different. If they are close close, it will work. But when it’s too far apart, nope

When the input shaft bearing goes or when you cook a bearing and send shrapnel though the case would be my take. Probably optional even with the input shaft bearing bad.

@@lucabellantoni5350 unfortunately not. The cables will only bolt properly to either one side. So either the K swap box and K24z7 cables will bolt up and the tranny side won’t, or the tranny side will bolt up and the K swap box side won’t.

It’s really interesting, because I have the K20Z4 (European version of the K20Z3) swapped into my EK chassis. I used the K-tuned TSX shifter (KTD-TSX-AC2) with the K-tuned Civic SI shifter cables (SFT-CAB-611) on the OEM gearbox bracket and it almost works, but not quite. The gearbox side cable behind the bracket is just 5-10 mm short of movement to fully go into third gear. When the engine is not running it seems to go in, but when running it pops out. Could you confirm that this is the reason why you use the bracket setup as shown in this movie? Also, the bracket that you use, is not compatible with some of the shifter cables, because that bracket has a different way of mounting.

Your problem seems to be that you’re mixing Tsx and Civic Si Parts that are basically OEM replacement and since the cables don’t have any adjustment capability, things will be a little off. You can either use Race Spec cables that will adjust, or change the setup so that the shifter box and cables are for the same transmission style and it will work properly. My bracket was designed to bridge a gap between this transmission and different chassis options

Euro friend here! I’m using a k20z4 trans in my k24 swapped eg, currently running the hybrid racing k20z3 no cut shifter mated with fn2 cables but i dont like it. From the video the bracket Made by Osric looks like it has the same bolt pattern of our k20z4 cables bracket so using it with the old k tuned tsx cable bracket should work.

Yoo, thank for the video Osric, something is rattling around down on the undercarriage, I've a feeling I may have either chipped a gear or the input shaft (still learning how to drive stick 😅) from my earlier attempts at driving, I'm doing some research on doing a tranny rebuild incase I have to, I'd rather not pay the $3-$5k if I can help it. Hoping maybe I just burned the clutch (got the infamous clutch smell a couple of times) the rattling seems to go away with gas so it might be a pulley but it sounds like it's coming from underneath at least when I sit in the cab, car's srill driving fine but the rattle got me worried for sure
