Ignacio lay dying in the sand A single red rose clutched in a dying hand And the women wept to see their hero die And the big black birds gathered in the sky Mother of all our joys Mother of all our sorrows Intercede with him tonight For all of our tomorrows The years went by and then the killers came And took the men, marched them up the hill of pain And Lorca, the faggot poet they left 'til last Blew his brains out with a pistol up his arse Mother of all our joys Mother of all our sorrows Intercede with him tonight For all of our tomorrows The killers came to mutilate the dead But ran away in terror to search the town instead But Lorca's corpse, as he had prophesied, just walked away And the only sound was the women in the chapel praying Mother of all our joys Mother of all our sorrows Intercede with him tonight For all of our tomorrows.

Gotdamn. This era of SE is unbelievable. I was about 12 in the early 90s when I came up with this CD. I listened at home but couldn't convince my classmates to get into it.

I've realised why I like this tune so much: despite being a supposedly English song, the tune has unmistakable examples of 'the Scots catch' in it, which has been the hallmark of Scottish folk music since at least the 1500s. That doesn't mean it wasn't written by someone English or indeed Irish, but if it was, they were copying the Scottish style.

I often wish i wasn't Irish. It's too much. I jest, I know i'm blessed, but it's hard, sometimes. . .Not as much as it is for my Palestinian Brothers and Sisters. God give you strength.

Ladies and gentlemen, attention please Come in close so everyone can see I got a tale to tell A listen don't cost a dime And if you believe that we're gonna get along just fine Now I've been travelin' all around I heard trouble's come to your town Well I've got a little somethin' Guaranteed to ease your mind It's call Snake Oil y'all It's been around for a long, long time Say, your crops'll burn if it don't rain soon Ain't seen a drop since the tenth of June Well I can open up the sky People never fear If you ain't impressed yet, just tell me what you wanna hear Well you lost your farm so you moved to town You get a job, they shut the factory down Now you sit around all day long feelin' sad and blue You need Snake Oil y'all, tell you what I'm gonna do I can heal the sick, I can mend the lame And the blind shall see again, it's all the same Well ain't your President good to you Knocked 'em dead in Libya, Grenada too Now he's taking his show a little further down the line Well, 'tween me and him people, you're gonna get along just fine
