I can remember my brother having the early Drake Receiver and a home made tx. In my mind Drake being in Miamisburg Ohio was close to the 200kw VOA transmitter in Bethany OHIO AND also close to a 50KW station in Mason Ohio, both only 25 miles away so must have influence there receiver design. My brother received his ham license in 1957. I am also a ham now but in 57 as a 13 year old went with him as a reader because he was blind. He is still a ham in Cincinnati after all these years with an extra class ham ticket. Thanks for your history of Drake. It is sad that so many American Manufactures of Ham radios is now history.

This is a wonderful presentation. I learned a great deal. Thank you. My older brother was excited when got acquired a Drake 2B receiver. Years later I was living in an apartment listening to hams and SWL with an old Hallicrafter SX-71 receiver. I was able to purchase a used Drake R4-A from Henry Radio. WOW! Wha a difference the Drake made. I now could determine exact frequency. Many years later I acqauared a Drake R4-B, T4X-B, and Drake speaker. I had Jeff in Ohio go through then and they perform better than new specifications. W5JCS

Well, at least they are trying. Amateurs here in Jackson, Mississippi don't do field day. The reason being that they don't communicate with their local residents let alone someone located in another state or country.

What I don't get is how the phase rejects in a PR40. Are they running a second microphone to filter noises from behind?

The problems are not with compression and desk stands, it's how they are used. Clean, properly implemented compression can be quite effective in hiding and slicing through noise and fading on the radio. i learned that lesson by accident in the broadcast business.

Bob makes a good point that you can't control what receiver is receiving you. You have to compensate for narrow receivers with your equalization. You have to "split the difference" between wide hi-fi receivers and narrow receivers.

well i am number 43 for the rebels and if i had to say the touchdown pass that destrehan caught for the td i would say the call should of been pass interference but it could of gone either way just how the ref looked at it and of course the refs were from down south but nothing to complain im just a junior ill be back in the dome next year and i hope that destrehan is too just to show them we are the better team
