When I saw The Warning live I was amazed how good their live sound is! Ale's bass tone live is amazing.

There are four young ladies I admire, love, and follow, Angelina and Villarreal sisters (The Warning). All of them started their careers very young 10 years ago, Angelina 7, Alejandra 9, Paulina 12, and Daniela 14. But it was to the audience, all of them started before 6. There are many other coincidences between they. Of course, talent, dedication, hard work, humanity, and empathy... and probably the big key to their success, their family environment, values, and support.

Pau would be an excellent frontwoman if she wasn't also one of the best drummers alive! You should check out their performance of "Natcisista" from Teatro Metropolitan where her drum teacher fills in on drums so she can come upfront and sing. Her energy when she escapes the drums is insane! kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2epZ5-DZrWrmq8si=Y8E3QGw-i3kqXwib

It becomes disappointing to people when a band that they've put "into a box" produces a song that lands just outside that box. Don't ask me why… because I don't want to put them in a box… but it happens. You become disappointed at where they've landed… and instead of appreciating a good song… focus is on if they are still playing the "genre" you boxed them in on. There is always more than one… there are many that do this… tbh. I like music that sounds good. "Genres" are for helping you find music in music stores. I don't think they are for stunting a bands creativity? Making them stay in a designated box… or getting upset with them for exploring new sounds. Anyway… great reaction. I'm gunna check your channel out. Thank you! DPA 4EV'R!

You are not wrong, their sound guys (Lalo for live, Beto for pro videos) are magicians. You have to get to a Warning concert to see for yourself that yes, what you hear on youtube is exactly what you hear live, just that live you can feel it too. I was blown away at my first Warning concert by how much clearer they were than Evanescance. Both very loud, but Evanescance was overpowering, and not in a good way. The Warning was LOUD but crystal clear. I could close my eyes and tell what cymbals Pau was hitting. Actually live, the drums have 2 slight differences (to my ears): the rack toms are louder live than in youtube mixes, and Pau's snare is insanely loud in person. Like it's a cannon going off when she goes for it. If you want to know more about Dany's distortion mix, she has done a Gearmasters rundown showing her pedal board (Kemper profiler) and a couple of old live vids about an hour each of her going through her pedal board settings (an older one, but gives you an idea of what she likes) where she gives the exact circuit/distortion settings she uses and why.

I'm a nearly 70 year old guy and I fell in love with The Warning as soon as I heard "Dust to Dust" two months ago. That was the first time I heard them and I now watch video(s) every day. Welcome down their rabbit hole, they own your soul now! At this concert all 3 ladies were feeling under the weather, but Pau (drummer) was really bad and their manager wanted the concert canceled. They are troopers and put their fans first and put on a fantastic show! Like a well oiled machine, they keep going and going and going!

This was the first version I heard of Dust to Dust and assumed Pau always sounded like this (which was great), so I couldn't figure out why people kept making a big deal of her having the flu. But then I listened to several other versions, such as the Teatro Metropolitan for example, and I heard how she sings normally, and damn she has a gorgeous voice. I could definitely hear the difference. Again, she sounds great here, but MUCH better when she's not under the weather.

A little bit on the audio, since you noticed. Their live (FOH) mixing engineer is Eduardo (Lalo) Plaza, who makes the band sound like this video sounds live in the venues. However, this concert was tracked and then mixed/mastered later in post-production by Beto Ramos. (He also happens to be Pau's drumming coach/teacher). The Warning is a real family type organization, with very close ties to everyone who works with them. Most of their crew has been with them since they were kids. As a top-tier FOH mixing engineer going on 30 years now, I am impressed just how great this bands sounds, especially being a trio. Most bands, even ones that have been around for decades, don't sound this good live. It's a testament to their writing, their playing technique, their understanding of the tech they use, as well as their crew.

I'd just like to appreciate something the original commenter above stated that is often overlooked, "their understanding of the tech they use." I think all of them, but particularly Pau, are geniuses at understanding the technological age they live in, and using it to the maximum WITHOUT cheating or not playing live. Just one example. Do they use backing tracks? Yes, but only for piano or additional sounds that those 3 can't recreate live, or on rare occasions even extra backing vocals. But do they ever lip sync or "fake it?" Nope, you are ALWAYS hearing their singing live. Again, that's just one example of what I mean by finding the perfect balance between using technology without relying solely on it. Watch their gear masters videos, especially Pau's, where she talks about her use of the laptop and backing tracks.

Dull Knives (Cut better) - The Warning's songwriting chef d'oeuvre. The title immediately piques interest. How can a blunt knife cut better? As soon as the 1st verse kicks in, it dawns upon us that this is a song about self harm, as the Queen contemplates suicide after her vain attempt in love that went unrequited. Of course, she wants it to be a messy affair. What else is better than a knife with dull edges? And then a 15 year old Pau, conjures this masterpiece of a metaphorical verse "Needles piercing through my brain Slowly inflicting the pain I'm plucking roses but keeping the thorns!" Numerous poets in literature have cautioned us about the dangers of thorns in a bush of roses. But seldom has a poet preferred to keep the thorns as a prickly reminder of her misery, as she descends into a maniacal pit of dark desperation. To drive home her lunatic despair, Pau goes into a machine gun like double bass drumming at 6:40 of the original clip, in a final frenzy with Dany & Ale. Dull knives do cut better indeed with The Warning in Queen of the Murder Scene. To this day this concept album remains their magnum opus in songwriting. And it was their 2nd LP!!! 🤯🤯🤯

They added an extended ending to Dust to Dust to transition into Dull Knives. The song usually ends after Dany’s wail. If you go back a few years to the Lunario concert Ale has an extended bass intro to Dust to Dust that is amazing. Dany uses a Kemper Profiler for her guitar magic. Her onstage cab is also mic’d and sent to FOH. There is an older video on TW YT channel when she was using her Helix Line 6 where she goes over her signal chain and explains how it works as much as she can in layman’s terms. The Kemper works basically the same way but it has more organic sounding amp profiles.

Good reaction. Dust to Dust is the intro to their concept album Queen of the Murder Scene, published in 2018 when the sisters were 18, 16 & 13 year old. Dull Knives (Cut Better) is the 9th song from that same album which was mostly composed by a 15 year old Pau, going through her emo phase in middle school. Had you been a bit more discerning you would have picked up changes in tempo of the music (including double bass drumming to quicken the pace and express the urgency of poetry) as demanded by the lyrics of these songs. The Warning are an intellectual band. To complete your The Warning experience, I will urge you to analyze their lyrics. What a band is saying and how it is saying that, defines songwriting ability. Pau's profound metaphorical poetry with innate messages make The Warning stand out from the rest. One of the many reasons why we like the girls. Even songs they had written as children are better than most. In today's world of show over substance, after a long time a band is saying something substantial in rock. Through their insightful lyrics that make us pause & think, the Villarreal sisters have brought back the intellectualism of classic rock from 60s, 70s. Miles Davis famously said "It's not the notes you play, it's the notes you don't play." The Warning epitomize that saying through their subtle, intelligent compositions. We don't need 10 key changes with 20 rhythm breakdowns to make a great song. Rock is about connecting with the audience. Not a lesson in technicalities of musicianship that is often misinterpreted as fast & showy instrumentation. I will post separately about Dull Knives (Cut Better).

During the breakdown, as the tempo started to pick up, you could hear a ‘roar’ spreading from the fans. In the original performance of Dust to Dust, at the Lunario CDMX 2018 The Warning’s manager Rudy Joffroy joined them on stage in the role of a preacher and delivered a Spanish sermon to the audience! In later performances, as in at Teatro Metropolitan, the Spanish sermon was a prerecorded background track. Here, at the Pepsi Center that ‘roar’ you hear are 8,000 fans reciting the Spanish sermon themselves! Epic!
