I genuinely cannot wrap my head around the exercise. I know you breath out, but I do not understand how to position my tongue or how hard I am supposed to breathe out?

I've spent years trying and somehow the ara trick finally worked, took like 30 minutes and still plenty of room for improvement but I can finally do it

holy fuck, after 30 years of giving up on ever rolling my R's I'm already getting a little roll after just finishing this 12 min video doing the whispered 'ara's EDIT: Also I find that if you're having trouble it helps if you look up at the ceiling. You can feel your tongue get pulled back a little bit which helps you get the tip of the relaxed tongue into place easier.

Thank you so much for this video. I've been unsuccessfully trying to roll the R's for so many year, but by the time I finished watching your video and practicing while I watch, I was able to roll the R's at the end of this video.

Restaurante is the only word I could just barely start to feel it happening, but I don't think I'll ever be able to do it because my hard palate is not flat. Cleft palate is a deformity where the hard palate doesn't fuse together in utero. I don't have cleft palate; I have the opposite. It's called torus palatinus. A little bone curves down and makes a little hill at the back of your hard palate. Totally harmless when you're born with it, causes people zero issues, quite common esp in women and asians. But it significantly changes the way air flows in my mouth. In addition, the mid/back of my tongue is almost constantly touching this bone during speech, just barely, it's never in the way, but regardless it causes air to divert around both sides of my tongue. So I think whatever I do, even if I belted air out of my lungs, it just wouldn't flow in my mouth in a way that could cause my tongue to trill... Thank you though, I can just barely feel it trying to happen with restaurante, i will keep practicing.

All i know is that i trust this more than i ever will trust ''Pot of Tea'' Because of my vocal struggles. Replicating sound alone is only going to confuse me, just like how that other spanish teacher got me in tears when our spanish class had to fuse with the one she taught due to the lack of our own for that day xD Speaking only in spanish does that to a person who struggles moreso picking up just vocal stuff with no additional advice and visual practice. Also.. A more childish mental state. When just an 8th grader.. So 12/13 years. Im hoping for better luck here xD Especially with friends from Costa Rica, and those from Argentina and beyond which has a more poor english understanding.. Time to work on truly becoming multilingual- *discounting english, too many including me learn that at school x-x*
