the single most ridiculous training that violates all traditions, most importantly, logic, is assuming frontal facing, square stance in doing lap sau.
@AtlanticwarriorsOrg
@AtlanticwarriorsOrg 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comments on this training video. We completely agree with your statements regarding the use of a frontal facing stance while applying lap sau. During application, a bong sau should always be done with a shift. The drill in this video, however, is for the student that is standing on the beam (student on the left) to simply enhance his development of rootedness, internal equilibrium, and the independence of the limbs from the torso. The development of those attributes are the focus here, and can all be enhanced with proper training on the beam. This is but one of a half dozen different lap sau drills we use. Each one with a different development focus.

I had the privilege of training under Sifu Petree at Atlantic Warriors and I have to say that the training you receive here is top notch. It’s changed my life and although I moved away from the area, I still practice every day the concepts, drills and mindsets I received while attending Atlantic Warriors. If you are looking for a Wing Chun school with deep roots to improve both the mind and body, Sifu Petree at Atlantic Warriors is a great choice. I miss you all Sifu, I hope all is well and know that I haven’t let up on my training! 👍

Sifu Petree, I live in Orlando, but I am almost willing to travel to Jacksonville to train with you. I live in central Florida. about how long does it take to travel to your school in Jacksonville. I know it will be well worth the trip. Question. Do you have any Saturday classes?
@AtlanticwarriorsOrg
@AtlanticwarriorsOrg 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Dion, we do have Saturday classes. Each Saturday we hold a two hour wing chun class from 9AM-11AM at our headquarters location. This location is at the following address: 11915 Beach Blvd., suite 117, Jacksonville, FL 32246. It is located underneath the Anytime Fitness sign on the building that sits on the corner of Beach Blvd. and Huffman Blvd. On Saturdays we have students live out of state, out of the county, and of course local students. Classes are always small (7 to 10 students on average). Transit time from Orlando, depending on what side of Orlando you begin, will be two and half hours approximately.

Thanks! Did you list the dimensions of the plywood and the types/size of bolts/screws you used somewhere?????
@AtlanticwarriorsOrg
@AtlanticwarriorsOrg 8 жыл бұрын
+basslinger Hello, thank you for your question. I did not list the dimensions of the plywood in the video. However, here are some guidelines to use. 1) Use 1/4", or 3/8" plywood thickness. 1/2" plywood will work of course, if you desire more energy absorption from the wall behind it. 2) Cut the width of the plywood to roughly 3 times the width of the wall bag that you purchase. The wall bag should be in the center of the plywood, and take up 1/3 of its surface horizontally. 3) Vertically, the plywood should be 12 inches longer than the wall being used. This will allow for 6" of plywood showing above the wall bag, and 6" showing below the wall bag when the bag is placed on the plywood.
@AtlanticwarriorsOrg

+basslinger For the screws, I used thick, 1/4", or 1/2" lag screws that were 4" long. The wall bag is quite heavy when filled with sand, and needs to have some heavy duty anchoring into the wall studs. In some circumstances, I have used 5/8" lag screws. A triple wall bag filled with sanitized play sand can weigh from 30lbs to 50lbs. Steel shot, or stone can weigh even more.

Hi meesha988, this is reply #2 of 2. Also, with canvas bags, be careful not to drag your knuckles down the surface of the wall bag. If you drag your knuckles down the bag after a punch, they will get chewed up quickly, and that will lead to your bleeding, and probably bleeding on the bag. This will delay your training, as you will need to heal your knuckles first, before wall bag training again. Do your best to not hit the bag too hard, or for too long at one time, as to make your knuckles bleed
@AtlanticwarriorsOrg

Hi meesha988, thank you for watching the video, and your questions. Yes, it is best to start with beans as a beginner, so you may slowly condition your hands. Slow, consistent training is best in the long run. Dry Mung beans are a top choice for wall bags, however, if you do not have access to Mung beans, then dry kidney beans, dry lima beans, or even dry black beans will suffice. With consistent practice, you can work your way to sand. I will post more in another message.

Hi HereIsScott, I am glad you liked the video. I know, I wish it were not true either, but the sand at our local beaches is toxic. A few years ago one of my friends simply walked out to the beach here, and got some sand to fill his wall bag. He said, that after 3 weeks, it began to put off a terrible odor. He had to throw out the bag and the sand due to the smell, and the bags contents had high levels of industrial chemicals. He suspected it is from the Navy base that is right up the beach.

@AtlanticwarriorsOrg
@AtlanticwarriorsOrg Ай бұрын
Yes, it is okay, just do not hit the bag very hard. Traditionally, the wall bag is filled with dry mung beans as a first step. However, if taught properly, a student can safely develop with using sand as the first step.

I was taught the dummy should be low one can seek to achieve his lowest, effective posture- a low posture is heavy & hard to uproot, which, is favorable against an opponent who is higher in his posture. Low attacks tend to be more difficult to detect, which is another advantage. Ideally, attacks should go from low to high in their trajectory towards the opponent- this aids in uprooting and takes advantage of natural weaknesses in the body's ability to absorb forces moving inwards and upwards

"If I submit, I won't be harmed" - A victim doesn't choose to be a victim. You should give participant options and strategy to make the right decision for the situation. Not all rapists are going to kill the victim. If you say submission is something participant shouldn't do - and if the adrenaline dump paralyses them (which is likely) you'll have a victim who'd feel guilt if they survive - "I attended the course yet got raped. It's my fault." The goal is to survive, not to perform a tactic.

@Daddyo94521 Hello, thank you for your comment. Yes, the mook jong frame in the video has (4) height settings. However, at the time this video was made, the rung that is second from the top was broken. You can see it clearly, just follow the cross member from the side of the mook jong to where it connects to the frame, then look right above it. The broken rung has since been replaced.

@SifuPetree Thank you Sifu! It is refreshing to see a hand to hand combat instructor who understands real combat, and what it takes to survive it. Your students are in good hands, and though they know that, I feel that it greatly benefits them hearing it from an unbiased source due to the lack of government regulation of martial instruction in this country. You have a great day as well Sir!
