This would have been of at least of similar caliber to Pirates of the Caribbean… dark but touched by humor, full of fun but followed by serious adult themes, and best of all… it wouldn’t have made one big joke out of itself. Sadly we’re past the days where Disney would release mega blockbusters like Pirates of the Caribbean… the new Haunted Mansion movie they’re moving forward with (starring Owen Wilson and Danny Devito…) seems like it’s going to suffer from what all their movies have been suffering from these last 7 years: a severe lack of substance. Like 99% of their recent releases, it’ll be chalk full of ridiculous slapstick comedy and flashing colors for the kids. And this is coming from an avid (classic) Disney fanboy. I’ve always wanted (my favorite attraction) Haunted Mansion to get the love and respect it deserves like Pirates… sadly I don’t think it’ll ever get it.

Stop spreading false nonsense. Disney canned it because production was stalled too many times. I love Del Toro but he's notorious for stretching himself too thin. This film was initially between Golden Army and Hobbit, and his early 2010s projects but it kept getting pushed so eventually it was canned. Simple as that. Disney wouldn't have signed off on half their current projects if they were adverse to horror projects.

Guys. It’s still happening. Del Toro is no longer directing, but he’s still involved as co-writer and producer. Plus, we officially got a cast for this reboot. We got the names of Tiffany Haddish, Lakeith Stanfield, Owen Wilson, and Rosario Dawson. So yeah, a reboot of The Haunted Mansion is officially still happening.

According to IMDB, there is a new Disneys Haunted Mansion in the works that Del Toro is one of three writes for. I'm on the fence though because it reportedly has Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson and Danny DeVito as the top billing.

Judging by the date of this video along side the fact that there's been zero stuff about this, it sadly seems that the horror reboot is dead. At least that's what it appears to be for now.

Cody Gearheart Maybe once after Jungle Cruise is released and hopefully it becomes successful enough that Disney will revive this project. I know at first it was very rocky with almost everything being a miss but they need to give films based off attractions a second chance. Only successful one was Pirates Of The Caribbean and they stretched it for too long causing a massive fatigue with the franchise. Maybe it doesn’t even have to be a film released in theaters, they can do a sort of anthology series of films on their Disney+ service where they release films based on several attractions every year or two. I don’t know if any of this is likely though and I’m sure Disney will probably just play it safe with their countless remakes and Marvel movies releasing three times a year.

God i was hoping to see his version of the HM. With the Hatbox Ghost, the Undead, both the Beating Heart bride Emily (Heroine) & Black Widow bride Constance (Villainess) are in the attic and top floor, and others. Man this would have been a cool movie.

Two things I hope from this: that it can recreate the feeling of mystery and ambiguity of the ride and that it'll actually be really creepy (I never found Haunted Mansion ride too happy or comedic). I also hope they'll set the movie in the past, because smart phones and modern pop culture references just don't fit the atmosphere imo.
