It'ss incredible that the mind can already see the "realism" in just two values when you blocked it in. Really makes painting seem less magical and more achievable.

Amazing lesson! This harkens back to your lesson in the previous channel, it was mind-blowing stuff the way you simplified how to work with light and shadows. Weird that this is kind of an obscure topic here on youtube, even though it's so essential. Wish you the best on this new channel! I won't miss a video.

Subscribed the moment I heard God separated light from the darkness. Yes. Yes. Just like how you need someone to interpret the application of chess to life, many things point to the Father of lights as all things have their meaning and purpose in the Son. Nothing is meaningless in light of His Word. He fills all in all!

@eunicestjarielofficial Yes! It’s amazing how so many painting principles have parallels to spiritual principles and it’s something I love exploring. Making this video reminded me a lot about Philippians 4:8 and 1 John 1:7.

Daniel have you seen James Tissots’ painting titled View From The Cross? It is from the perspective of Christ looking at everyone from the cross during his crucifixion. Im wanting to do something similar down the road.

I hadn't, thank you for sharing this! I looked it up and it's very interesting. That's a really remarkable perspective. There's something powerful there, related to being seen and seeing others...
@catherineharmer48242 ай бұрын
In John 19:25 it says that at the foot of the cross were three women, all named Mary. It was Mary, the mother of Jesus, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas and Mary Magdalene. We also see that John was there as a witness and disciple. Nicodemus, the Pharisee and Joseph of Arimathea were also there. Matthew 27:45 says that darkness covered the land from the sixth to the ninth hour. This would be a 3 hour eclipse of the sun from what we would call noon to three pm. Jesus died at 3 pm and as soon as he did, the earthquake occurred. The Centurion might have been in total awe, recognizing Jesus as the son of God. I think all the women and John would be grief stricken because the dearly loved Jesus. Perhaps Mother Mary would have the most grief showing in her portrait. Are there specific references you need? Do you prefer to or not to look at old master’s paintings of this scene???
@danielfoltapaints2 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing this Catherine! Could you please share the sources you found that described Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea being there? I haven't been able to find any in the gospels, but I wonder if there are writings from church tradition / early church fathers that may have suggested this. I'm definitely open to seeing old masters' paintings of this scene, feel free to send me links to any paintings that you think depict the scene really well :) Thank you!

Do you recommend a specific color for the background? Whether fabric or wall paint?
@danielfoltapaints2 ай бұрын
As long as you have that white card to let the camera get the white balance & exposure correct, you shouldn't have to worry about the items behind the painting as long as you plan on cropping the image. If you aren't planning on cropping the image, then I'd recommend a dark neutral color to let the painting stand out.

Glad I could help! Your artwork is really nice btw 🙂 it appears that you draw on a table... in my videos I showed how the easel should be upright, but in your case if the artwork is on the table, you'll want to "rotate" the angle of the light while keeping the same angle, if that makes sense. For example, if the artwork on the table is at 0 degrees (flat) instead of 90 degrees, then you'll want to shine the light from 10-30 degrees (or 150-170 degrees), so that the light shines on the artwork without creating glare. You'll also have to be aware that you'd be taking the photo from above (90 degrees), and may cast a shadow onto the artwork by mistake. So make sure that you are on the other side of the artwork from the light, so that no shadows of your arms or phone are cast onto the artwork itself. Let me know if that makes sense!

13:54 It was A LOT of work and this was the EXACT reason why I had to put in more work 😅. Those brush strokes made my paint contaminated to the point where the layers of paint were thickening each time I went back to paint. I definitely was getting frustrated because of it, but this just makes so much sense👏🏽

@@breaunamarquis-griffith3298 aahh I can see how that would happen! Hopefully with more admixtures and gentle pressure in with the right shade in the right area will help you get softer gradients without contamination or thickening paint 🙂
