I think you have to put that grease back with new after cleaning otherwise I think the tonearm will bind up at times in fact I think thats why my tonearm binds up do to dry old grease, the tone arm will stick at a certain point on the record and cause the record to skip.

I think they call it white grease.

You may need a new ceramic cartridge and the new needle.Ceramic cartridges degrade over time and loose volume.Magnetic cartridges dont do that..When you try the automatic function turn the knob and hold it for a while to see if it will trigger the auto function, it may be lazy or need service and adjustment.

Amazing find that it is mostly working. It is 50 years old now. We had a Magnavox console from the '70's with a slightly different console from yours. On ours the pieces that look like carved wood was actually molded plastic. They faked it real good back then. We had the same drawer pulls so seeing this detail and everything working took me back in time. I could almost smell the warm tubes and diner cooking. Enjoy it. These are getting rare.

I love my VCS. The recharged games are truly great and, because I am 57, the nostalgia factor is high for me.

Get all the old hardened grease out of the various parts of the turntable and relubricate. Looks like you got a real steal as it looks as if it was well cared for. You'll probably need to replace most or all of the electrolytic capacitors, but all things considered not a difficult or expensive repair.

It's called a stereo console, not just a record player or record cabinet, like in the title of the video. It has an 8-track tape deck and a radio, which makes it so much more than just a record player. It is also a Magnavox, which is a prestigious make.

What is that little hole on the back of it? Mine all of a sudden stopped working yesterday, and I saw that hole and decided to put a paperclip in it because I figured it was a reset button or something, and I didn't care if I broke it because I hate this infernal system and was just trying to see if it works still so I can sell it or give it away to some poor unsuspecting soul. Anyways, I jammed a paper clip in there and it actually began to work again, and still is today... but looking at you open it here, it looks like it's just a circuit or on the board and not a button? Or is there? Thanks.

I opened my player and one of the black knobs had blew off . Not sure how to fix that .

My battery is busted. It will turn on but the audio is all wonky. I've taken it apart, turned it on and then unplugged the battery and it works fine. But it won't turn on without a battery, is there a way to bridge a pin or two?
