Great interview! I liked your discussion of the difference between interpreters and linguists. I knew an NCO who accompanied an officer who did liaison with the local tribal leaders in Iraq. Fortunately, they had a skilled interpreter who could read all of the nuances of eye movement an body positioning to keep them out of trouble. Your book is on my reading list. Must order soon. PTB

My khaki Campbell flies, saw her traversing about 30-40 feet about 5-6 feet above the ground. She also likes to perch on a box where she can observe her surroundings. She's also the loudest with a wide range of vocalization. She struts around like she's the leader of the pack even though she's the smallest.

A fascinating interview. I have long been interested in Jonestown* and many other cultic movements throughout history, and this really caught my eye. I especially appreciated Annie’s insights about how cults attract some people. The forces and pressures that lead to people’s joining them seem obvious, but unfortunately they are poorly recognized or at least tend not to be addressed and countered. I am about to add the book to my Nook e-reader library. * I even knew the drink was Flavor Aid, not Kool-Aid.
@LaurelMcHargue3 ай бұрын
I believe you know more than most, John! It's hard not to be interested in cults. We often cannot understand what drives the human spirit to follow blindly in the path of professed prophets, even to the point of being complicit in murder and suicide. Thank you for these comments. I'm sure Annie will be delighted!

Loved to hear about his book and his learned wisdom that we can all take lesson from. I especially loved his telling of how he raised his children and to be forgiving of what they have done and not to punish for mistakes that we all have made. I hope to become more of a shepherd and not a sheep. Wonderful interview and great advice from Spirit Ricks.

I seldom listen to podcasts or online interviews in general, but this was worth being an exception. I was particularly glad that I listened to the end and when Mr. Ricks said, “Don’t believe your own hype,” because I believe that is one of the primary causes of social problems, and perhaps especially so today. As a friend put it about one individual, “He believes his own …,” and it’s hardly limited to one example that attracts more attention than others. Thanks to you both.

Looking a buying one of these Mosaic puzzles for my wife as a Christmas gift. Do you recommend a 250 or 500 piece for a puzzle lover but one that has never done these puzzles before?
@LaurelMcHargue5 ай бұрын
I suppose it depends on the type of challenges she enjoys! Wooden puzzles fit together differently than traditional ones, and all of the pieces are different! Maybe start with the 250 and get a 500 for her birthday (if/when she says she LOVES this kind!)
