When I drive my 1953 Hudson Super Wasp in overdrive, I only have to clutch into 1st gear from a stop. After that all I do is let up on the gas, shift into 2nd gear (without clutching), then let up on the gas and shift into 3rd (again without clutching) and finally let up on the gas for overdrive. Been doing this for years with my '53 and even the '50 Pacemaker I had with an overdrive. Also, I often use the column shift lever to shift down to 2nd from 3rd without clutching. Try this if you haven't already and you still have your Hudson. This also helps preserve your clutch and throw-out bearing. "Happy Motoring!"

You are correct, I also do the same as you. I made the video for anyone that has never driven a stick on the column, as the car was for sale. Thanks for your comment.

Pretty good exterior and nice interior on this Hudson Hornet. Engine runs like a charm and engine bay looks nice. Hope you got a million bucks for it!

Can you down shift from overdrive too 3rd too 2nd too 1st or do you have to come to a complete stop to get it back into first ??
@richardhodge54012 жыл бұрын
Hi, you can down shift from third to second either in overdrive or out of overdrive. You do need to come to almost a complete stop to put it in first gear as first gear is not synchronized. When you go slower than about 20 mph the car drops out of overdrive automatically.

This brings back memories. My father's very first car was a 1951 Hudson Commodore 6 and to me those early 1950's Hudsons are the most iconic cars on the planet. They will forever be my reference point of what a great car should be. He bought a second Hudson, a 1953 Wasp, a few years later for my mother because they both worked and needed vehicles. Each car ran for more than 250,000 miles. They were rock solid, durable, very reliable vehicles.

Nice car. With overdrive, what rpm would the engine turn at 60-65mph?
@fastpacemakers7 жыл бұрын
Hi, the bad paint and rust spots on the doors have been repaired. With O/D the RPM at these speeds is as follows. 55=2000, 60=2200, 65=2400, 70=2600 75=2700

I use to own a '50 Pacemaker sedan with overdrive (I now own a '53 Super Wasp sedan). Anyway, my '50 never took off like that with its original engine. Have you replaced the 232 with something else like a Hornet 308? I see you replaced the Pacemaker side spears with some '48-49 "Hudson" side spears and the hood ornament with what seems off a Hornet. Car looks and sounds great and thanks for the fast ride!

+Dan Uscian Hi Dan, yes the engine was changed to a stock 262 before I bought it. I put duals on it and painted it, other than that it is the way I bought it. I sold it to a friend here in the local Hudson club shortly after the video was made. Appreciate you comments.
