@djbilltakabillterwilleger58402 ай бұрын
@@80s_Boombox_Collector The first year they came out. Can you tell by the S/N? I smiled when I saw your shoulder strap, long before "rainbows' were a 'thing' mine was a rainbow pattern. It's right here next to me on the shelf I hung to display it on the wall. I picked up a 'belt kit' but never got around to servicing it. If I recall the tape deck, or the counter, or both stopped working 15 years ago.
@80s_Boombox_Collector2 ай бұрын
@@djbilltakabillterwilleger5840 I know they came out in the 1983 radio shack catalog, and probably lasted another 2 years after that. My strap isn't original unfortunately. Not sure if it even came with one from the factory. As for the tape deck, this model is notorious for needing other parts too, not just belts. Like sometimes the head bracket cracks, so the heads won't go up anymore. And there are plastic gears behind the deck that might crack too. If it was just belts, it might be worth trying to fix, but otherwise...

@80s_Boombox_Collector I am buying a Sanyo c9 tomorrow. I turn 54 on the 29th and when I was 15 I borrowed a buddy's C9. Why do you not see any of these around in your opinion? The tape deck needs restored and I was going to drop some 4ohm kicker components in it and dynamat the inside. I kick myself after seeing what my old boxes go for😭

I had the same Sanyo boombox and bought when I was 14 years old and loved that machine. Rare to see the 2 mics attached and I left mines in the box it came in and never attached. I used to hook up this Sony turntable and it sounded great and I would record the records and it was just as good as a full stereo. In 1982, I let my dad’s friend hold on to it for a $100. Loan and he never have it back when I asked for it. I guess he really liked it. I did find 2 others used and sold them on eBay about 7 years ago. One was just like yours but the other one was a M9994K and had SW bands. I actually recently saw another models and the difference was there was a red marking on the tape cover and I forget what it said and maybe CRO2. I just saw a clean one on eBay going for $3K on eBay. This is one of the top boomboxes from the first generation. I have this boombox book that Spike Lee put out about 14 years ago and this box is featured in there a few times. I paid like $20. for the book at Urban Outfitters and even that book is getting rate and going for $100. I wish I could collect all the boomboxes I always wanted but don’t have the space, so I collect Walkmans and mini boomboxes. Most when these were new didnt collect them and just bought the latest model, after the one they had broke down. They threw out the old broken ones bc it cost too much to fix. Like the time I took my Sony Walkman 2 to the Sony dealer to fix and never went back to pick up and just got another Walkman. So millions of these old boomboxes were dumped or wore down to the point they no longer work. If I had a Time Machine, I would buy all the old boomboxes for cheap and learn to fix them up and have a solid business with a warehouse of boomboxes and vintage stereo to resell. Actually, I saw this KZbin video of this guy that had a barn full of boomboxes and Walkmans that he fixes up and sell. I think he’s been buying for decades and would get them at flea markets and yard sales. Back then since the 90’s, ppl. thought they were junk or when apple started making iPods and things went digital, I actually found this boombox at a flea market and looked like they were packing it up and no one wanted about 12 years ago. It was in pretty good condition, but the tape no longer worked. I think I only paod $25. for it. Same goes for the first Sony Walkman in mint condition with a rare leather Sony case tyat protected it over 3 decades for $12. I sold on eBay not working but in mint condition for like $240. Now it’s probably fixed and worth like $1000.

@@80s_Boombox_Collector your absolutely right, I was lucky enough to get the 2 different models on ebay several years ago the 9994k and 9994 one had the loudness button the other had the mid tone, in very good condition all I have to do is replace the belts easier said than done lol, I did get the 9990 when I was about 20 years old in good old times Square, the model with the clock, still have it in box mint condition, the 9994 was a step above, take care of that 9994 their getting tremendously expensive in any condition. Great video
