Just out of curiosity, how much fuel did you use for this flight?

Killer video! One suggestion... Try thermaling 50% left vs right 😊 you've got a new subscriber

Awesome video. Thanks for posting. Been wanting to get into gliding for a long time and looks like the perfect machine for where we are located.

Pretty cool. The piperel sinus I seen also is a nice glider. Was wondering how you know were to find thermals for climb.?
@pcharron19832 жыл бұрын
Could you make it all the way to Las Vegas with only thermals?

I do not know if you still fly this beautifull motorglider but this is a really nice Video.

Are there still spare parts for this plane? Nice Soaring for a motorglider! A pitty that this plane has no support or production anymore... ?

Great looking TMG. Did you have to rebuild your Rotax to operate commercially?
@Sugarsail13 жыл бұрын
Great flight you might want to turn your VOX delay down on your head set if you have an adjustment for that, it's clipping the beginning of everything you say.

An emergency procedure if for some reason the electrical starter doesn't work. If you are gliding around the prop is feathered, that is the pitch angle is set very high to lessen drag. To start the engine you lower the nose to increase speed and change the prop angle to allow the prop to produce thrust. The increased airspeed turns or windmills the prop which the spins the crankshaft to start the engine. The prop pitch angle is manually changed using a level located on the bottom of the instrument panel.
@TheSoaringChannel Жыл бұрын
@@tomconte2847 not just an emergency. If you soar long enough you could inadvertently drain the batteries far enough to not be able to use the starter. That means you've had a good flight 🤤

@@TheSoaringChannel Or you might be having a self-launch endorsement or checkride in a Ximango, and this is a required maneuver for those...

This flight around Mt San Jacinto is the only one I like. It shows the beautiful trees on the 45 degree slopes. That is spectacular. Thanks so much. I have watched it several times. Will you be doing a flight around Mt Baldy soon?

Correct me if I am wrong, but it sounds like you were operating at an uncontrolled airport. If that's the case, is it not also your responsibility to monitor the frequency and perhaps remind the pilot of the Citation that you are taking off and request that he go around? Regardless, handled well in the moment.
@collinshea4416 жыл бұрын
Just some pilot who thinks he knows it all, its a shame how fast he tries to report you before realizing that he was the one at fault for not clearing the runway, which we all learn on our first flight lesson lol

So you're able to get up from the Indio area over the mountains and up to Warner? Does it take a while to gain the altitude to do that?
@palmstopinesgliding14497 жыл бұрын
It depends on the day. On a good day, we can climb at over 1000 feet per minute, so it doesn't take long at all. Also, we stop to work thermals along the way, so we don't get too low...
@csaviation90137 жыл бұрын
Is there any particular reason you flew from the right hand seat instead of the normal left hand seat?
@palmstopinesgliding14497 жыл бұрын
Yes. I'm used to having the stick in my right hand and operating spoilers, throttle, gear, and pretty much everything else with my left hand as is the norm for gliders. From the left seat everything is on the "wrong" side. I tried the left seat a few times and hated it.

What kind of camera setup are you using so that you can see your altitude and airspeed in the right lower corner of the video?
@palmstopinesgliding14497 жыл бұрын
I use a Garmin VIRB Ultra 30 with the aviation bundle, which allows you to tap in to the audio from your radio and intercom.
@Mysemantics7 жыл бұрын
Ha, from the video's title I expected to see you motorize all the way, but you showed us pure glider pilots some good stuff. Best to your enterprise and hope to come visit in cooler weather.
@palmstopinesgliding14497 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael. I go cross country engine-off whenever I can. However, some of my vids are motor-on the whole way... flying low over the San Andreas Fault or the Salton Sea, for example. Cool (relatively speaking) weather starts in October... Hope you can make it!
