Thanks for sharing & allowing me to experience all this from my bed in the freezing North West. I’d have spent all my time in the sauna & steam too. I think all that cold grey decor is a bit dated now. I would prefer a more fresh & natural environment with warmer colours. Yep, annoying that the spa has contaminated a vegan space with animal products. Ugh! People can go 1 day without consuming animals and their secretions and not die, for goodness sake. My first couple of years as a vegan I was a wegan (weak vegan). Apologetic & always trying to accommodate the animal abusers. No more! I agree with you Nicole, it’s disappointing, when everywhere else caters for them & they can go there.

why do you personally not eat stuff like eggs, or raw milk maybe? that doesnt really kill any animals. and why is the woman saying seed oils are healthy??????? what???????????????+
@jodie4748
@jodie4748 2 күн бұрын
The egg and dairy industry does kill and torture animals. Male chicks are brutally killed because they can’t lay eggs and are deemed ‘unnecessary’. Cows are artificially inseminated over and over again and suffer health consequences, just so they can constantly provide milk. Their young are taken away from them (and similar to chicks, male cows are often killed because there is no need for them) so we can have the milk instead of them, which is awfully distressing for both the mother and baby. Just some of the reasons why vegans don’t consume these products. On seed oils, some basic research will tell you that they provide health benefits, as long as consumed in moderation (obviously being high fat, you shouldn’t consume too much).

The bit of guilt you feel with flying is so relatable! Last jan I set a resolution to reduce imported products, particularly from outside of Europe.I was buying berries and melon (among other things) in winter, which come from so far, and one day I got some green beans and they were from Peru, which just felt excessive. I have stuck to eating mostly seasonally (inc, European), and looking at labels etc, but someone came round with some grapes from South Africa recently and I felt SO guilty, even though I didn’t buy them! Prior to the resolution I’d have never thought about it, and I don’t even expect perfection, your whole perception just changes doesn’t it when you open your eyes to these things!

What would you rather do as a business, put a cheese and ham toasty on a café menu, or lose £320 income? The likely reason they charge so much is because there aren't enough vegans to cover costs.

@FreddieAl this argument never holds up. You put off some customers, gain a few others, ultimately lose your USP. It simply doesn't work economically. But businesses try anything to survive. And more businesses are closing than ever before. That's not a vegan thing, it's a society side issue. Just with vegan businesses they tend to be smaller so at risk. The issue is rising costs and rents making things unsustainable for so many businesses.

I recently contacted M&S, asking why their Plant Kitchen section has disappeared. Although I was told they still sell vegan/plant-based products, I explained that they have been placed throughout the food hall & extremely difficult to find. I also told them, as ethical vegans we find it very off putting, having to go to the meat section to find items. Their response was that they are more interested in 'their customer base' who are meat & dairy consumers, but may want to add more plant-based based options into their diet. So basically it looks like they don't care about vegans, even though we are probably the biggest consumers of their plant-based range.

I am not a vegan, but I eat very little meat and I am so grateful for everyone who does not eat meat, because for the optimal usage of our agricultural area, we need to consume much less animal products. In my view, every area that can be used to plant crops, is better used for vegan consumption, while shrubland and pastures with steep incline, that can't be operated by machines are best for animals. So not everyone can be vegan, but the vast majority should subsist on mostly plants. I will miss cheese, though. Also, at the moment (at least here in Germany) vegan products are labelled really obviously, so there is nor confusion. They are, however, fucking expensive, because veganism is a livestyle, a lot of better-off people subscribe to. These brands are taking the piss, they are selling you vegan stuff for thrice the price it's worth. Meat should not be more affordable to normal people than tofu-burgers.

Being an omnivore, I wasn't too concerned about what to call a "burger, a "sausage" or what have you, but your point that those words describe a type of food, how it's shaped, rather than what it is made of, is thoroughly convincing. The only sketchy term would be vegan chicken in my opinion, in that case calling it a plant based chicken alternative is more appropriate. Its ironic how calling something a veggie burger is supposed to be confusing when the textile industry is so disregulated they will literally call things anything they want when its just 100% polyester, you gotta do an investigation to find out what the fibres actually are.

Guess what else is unhealthy as F? Candy, muffins, cakes, cookies, donuts, waffles, pizza, not to mention the processed meats that people love to eat (bacon, salami, hams, etc). We do have some ultra processed fake meats, but nobody is saying you should be eating that every day. A bag of beyond steak lasts me 2 weeks, same for impossible ground meat, fake chicken tenders. There’s nothing unhealthy in eating these things in moderation, so long as most of what you eat is whole foods. It’s hard to be full and satisfied with just Whole Foods, at least that’s my experience. Vegan products can give you that bump.

I am hoping to get my KZbin channel off the ground at some point and make some decent money. I make comedy videos. If it succeeds I'll become fully raw. I'm looking forward to it. I'd rather just stick to the definitions of words rather than be dishonest.. If anyone checks the definitions of 'sausage', 'bacon' and 'milk', it makes perfect sense not to label plants foods and drinks with these terms. 'Burger' can refer to other food patties, though. I just don’t believe in changing the definitions of words to make certain demographics feel safe.
@VeganBeautyGirl
@VeganBeautyGirl 6 күн бұрын
i get where you’re coming from, but language naturally evolves over time to reflect how we use and understand things. words like sausage and milk describe more than just the source-they refer to shape, texture, or usage. for example, coconut milk and almond milk have been called that for centuries without confusion. no one thinks oat milk comes from a cow or that a vegan sausage contains pork-it’s just clear, practical labelling that helps people know how to cook and enjoy these foods. it’s less about changing definitions and more about making things accessible and easy to understand for everyone.

I think it is a good thing that plant based mock meat products are placed in the meat isle. It is exactly the same argument as to why they would be called the meat-based names. It is a burger, so put it with the rest of the burgers. Sure it may be a little inconvenient for true vegans (the ones that don't want anything to do with animal based products). But it is much more convenient for everyone else to choose which burger they want to eat today. From my point of view it is better to make it easier for the larger part of the population to choose this (healthier, more climate friendly, animal friendlier) option.

i mostly agree! even though ideally, i'd still love for us to have our own little section. BUT it's hard for vegan alternatives to be competitve on price still due to subsidies awarded to the meat and dairy industry. so i'd hate to see our foods with meat if they can't compete price wise.

The word 'milk' comes from a word that means to stroke, to wipe, to rub - the actions that cause the udder to release its liquid. 'Meat' originally meant any food. 'Cheese' originally referred to something that had been fermented or soured - sauerkraut or wine could therefore be called cheese. 'Steak' refers to the stick or the stake that food was impaled on to cook over a fire. 'Sausage' comes from salt because salt was used as a seasoning in the animal flesh that was stuffed into skins. 'Dairy' comes from a word that refers to the building or room in which bread was made - although that word's etymology is not quite so clear. These words don't refer exclusively to animal products and can legitimately be used for vegan products. Calling milk milk is like calling a bruise a punch because the action of the punch can cause a bruise. 'Milk' also means to cheat or steal (milking the system) because that's what the parasitic farmers do to the cattle.
