Appreciate the performance but you’re not supposed to use your phone in the theater to take pictures. Its a wonderful, unforgettable show to watch and should be respected.

I don't understand what they are literally saying and yet it is such a joy to follow as you can still somewhat understand what is going on. Great video. I was very fortunate to see Tibetan debates live some time back in San Antonio, Texas and even then, one could still understand who was winning, and how without speaking Tibetan.

Wow I understood like 50% of it and there's a lot of goobering between the monks and sometimes they got confused as to what they were saying like at 6:55 . It's very human

Many wonder, "why all this aggressiveness"? Talking about the Dharma is all well and fine when you're sitting together with similar minded friends. But is your understanding as clear and robust when challenged or under pressure? Debate is an arena for testing your understanding with friends who are playing the devil's advocate, like a mock cross-examination in court. It's for helping the mind and speech to be quick and sharp when thinking about Dharma topics and not to just lazily "ponder" over it. During debate, it forces you to think on your feet and afterwards you can think about the holes in your knowledge and about assumptions you had that were revealed during the debate to be contradictory, thus deepening your understanding and making it more pliant and stable. It also helps you avoid the trap of preemptively thinking "oh, there is no logical answer to that - - it's non-dual!" when the questions become more difficult. :)

If an idea is correct then it will withstand debate's rigor, if it's incorrect then it will openly crumble. That is the point of debate and freedom of speech.

@@Jahtsowell said, especially your point about freedom of speech! Hate to think that the free expression of this culture has been so limited in its homeland. My thoughts are with those who still practice the Dharma & the traditions of Tibet under an oppressive foreign rule. May they be freed from the causes of suffering!
