You may or may not know but most diesel is stolen by unscrewing the breather and passing a small pipe down the breather hole then pumping it out rendering your locking cap useless have a elbow welded on your bollard then the breather screwed into it stops a pipe being pushed down it into the tank

Great video and a good tip for reading the dipstick level - wish I'd thought of that. I got so frustrated trying to see mine I made a separate one out of a white cable tie pushed through a plastic block, I then copied the empty and full marks onto it from the real dipstick using a sharpie marker pen. I keep it hung up in the engine bay. I too have the same problem with the oil container not being quite big enough. I have a large oil syringe and usually have it strategically placed and ready to suck a little out of the container as it drains. If I'm lucky I can get enough out before it overflows but inevitably it still seems to go everywhere lol!

Have you figured out how to use those cerbo relays with temp sensors to control when the webasto is on or off, so that you don't manually have to shut it off after it's warmed up? I've got the smart thermostat from webasto in my van, but you have to be in Bluetooth range to muck with it wirelessly. I'd love to have my onboard cerbo use my wireless temp sensors to keep my van, and battery bank, away from harsh temps when I'm not using the van daily. This seems like a good way to go, just unsure how I could integrate with the smart thermostat.

Hi Rob, Just a note to say how useful I've found this. I'm a little like you were before fitting your panels, i.e. I'm in the research stage with a view to fitting them in the spring, but a lot of the stuff like, no drilling, use of magnets and also using Victron kit is similar to my current thinking. I've found the excel spreadsheet brilliant for specifying the panels and controller size, thanks for the tip. On that subject I noticed you've added a few different Craig Solar panels to the spreadsheet but also a Perlite panel (Bimble Solar?), I've been looking at them too - any reason you finally decided on Craig Solar? I think the magnetic mounts are great, but at £65 per set of four from Bimble Solar I winced at the price! So I'm thinking of fabricating my own using some Neodymium Magnets and rubber anti-vibration mounts, hopefully I can achieve the same sort of specification as the Bimble ones - usefully they've provided measurements etc on their website, lol!
@robtheplod3 ай бұрын
Hi Mark! Thanks for watching the video and commenting.... i went for Craig Solar as they have free delivery and the panels were the correct size for the space i have.. i tried to go for as bigger panel as i could. agree re the magnets, they are expensive but cheaper than messing up the roof in my opinion - if you can fabricate these thats a great result!!! rob
@Mark-ig4wuАй бұрын
@@robtheplod Hello again Rob. Just an update, I've had some success making those magnetic mounts to the same spec as the Bimble ones. I bought some neodymium cup magnets with the same specification i.e. 20kg pull and attached them to some rubber anti-vibration 'bobbin' mounts which I bought from a company called Rubber Giant who specialise in various shapes and sizes of industrial anti vibration mounts. The tricky bit was attaching the magnets, I needed to use M4 machine bolts but the female thread on the rubber mounts was M6. I had the idea of using an M6 to M4 thread adaptor insert which has worked a treat. They look identical to the Bimble ones and came out at about half the cost but it'll be spring before I can actually test them to see how effective they are i.e. when I fit the panels. Fingers crossed!

Water in the diesel tank usually comes from condensation. The moist air gets in through the vent as the diesel is used and condenses on the cold steel surface, particularly in winter. It then sinks to the bottom of the tank. The diesel bug grows at the interface between the water and the diesel. Keeping tank full of fuel over winter reduces the amount of damp air above the fuel and thus reduces condensation.

As a Yank, help me understand. You are ‘supposed’ to pay a TAX to watch TV, then are you also required to pay for that “Terrestrial” (like a cable co, or satellite hookup)?
@robtheplod Жыл бұрын
Not quite, since 1946 the TV licence has been about. Initially as we only had terrestrial everyone who had a TV by definition also had to have a licence (shops told TV licensing when they sold TV's!). These days you only need a licence to watch/record something being broadcast live by a TV broadcaster such as Sky/ITV/BBC etc or if you use BBC iPlayer app. Unfortunately the narrative given by the BBC is deliberately unclear so there are many people who still pay out of ignorance/fear, despite being able to be legally licence free. You dont have to pay for terrestrial reception as such... its just the licence fee.
@alexrodgers9247 Жыл бұрын
@@robtheplod Thanks for taking time to explain. Seems unjust to keep people from news and info like that! Greed all around. I cut cable about 3 years ago (which in a way is similar to licensing fee at about $60/mo for basic stuff). Nothing really good on anymore, mostly without substance, even entertainment value. So, I’m fine with just internet. You guys hang on over there. Most of your leaders are similar to ours, greedy and could care less about the citizens. Cheers

A good tip going up wide locks with only one boat; only operate the paddle the same side as the boat is. The incoming water bounces off the opposite wall so holds your boat into the side. It doesn't always work, as all locks vary but I find the wide GU locks work well with only one paddle and it doesn't take that much longer to fill the lock. Don't let boaters waiting to come down,open both paddles as your boat will be jostled all over the place bouncing off the lock walls, as it rises.

Your doing a nice neat job on that install. If the Victron Multiplus gets noisy and starts to vibrate, I found the front cover on the units are poorly fitted. If you can get it in, a small rubber strip between the screws of the front cover and the main body of the inverter may fix some of the noise. The more power you put through them the louder the vibration's. Victron tells its clients it's normal for a low frequency inverter to make a hum and vibrate. It's not normal. It's bad construction that is the cause of it. Go have a look at this Video (OFF - Grid ? Why Choose a Deye Inverter to Power your Home ?) and you will see what I am talking about. Going to have a look at some of you other videos now 😉 ✌👍

Only things I would add here is the industry uses Paxolin as a construction medium for electrical switchgear, it's water/moisture/fire/heat resistant, it can be drilled, cut and meets all approvals for intended use, ply really doesn't! and I would ensure there is a fused/MCB protective device on all your control circuits, an unfused 400A bus supply will make short work of destroying your control wiring if a fault develops.
