I understand bearing. But when do you replace the wheels. I clean all the tracks and spray all the hinges and my wheels still making noise

I thought I was the only person who actually did this kind of maintenance on doors. But I did do this on trailers and trucks for 40 years.

Wish you spent a little more time explaining the difference between silicone and mineral oil based lubricants. They are like oil & water and can't be mixed. What type do manufacturers recommend?

My garage door is getting enough drag I think the pressure sensor is activating and it won't close. Going to do a thorough cleaning and lube following this.

What about the ball bearings in the wheels? Should they get grease or silicone?
@JDL_202022 күн бұрын
I use a piece of cardboard behind and angled under the springs that stops the wall being hit and catch drips. Not fun painting the garage and paint repelling from the silicone on the drywall.

WD 40 makes a silicone spray also. Would you recommend that one?

What about the bearings? They need to be lubricated too!

do not use spray lubricant on spring plugs just wrong use bar chain oil with a brush .with door in open position .keep oil1 inch away from plugs.

WD40....not at the gatage door. Take Silikon Spray like any ptofessional would do.

I also lube the overhead chain and wheels since there are small wheel bearings that will wear down without lubrication like on a car. Everything will run smoother and quieter !!!😊😊
@scottandersen42026 күн бұрын
Omg this is so incorrect on so many things. The killer was don’t oil the bearing in the rollers. You haven’t been in the garage door industry very long, have you.

I'm glad you don't recommend wd40 for this. It's not really a lube, and really shouldn't be used as one.

Tip I taught myself. I used pieces of cardboard, placing them behind where I was spraying in addition to shop towels. Cardboard helps protect areas from spray/over spray.

Very Nice...what they don't tell you and why you did Not recommend wd-40 is WD stands for water displacement...not lubrication..that's what silicone is for Thx!

Hi,how are you ,I have a double garage detached house , I had installed 2 garage doors in separated timing ( I believe almost 10 years apart, we only used the remote to open the garage Doors,we already forgot to use the security # to enter the garage from outside, we need to do that because sometime if anyone of the family members forgot to key for our main door, we can use the garage door to enter our house, the problem is since we almost never use to the garage door to enter the house, therefore we forgot the # to open it, therefore I need your advise of how to set a new # or retreat our old # ,please advise, best regards

i disagree with lubing the springs. The springs are not installed correctly. Thus the need to feel like you need to lube them. You can tell by the droop in the springs. It should be a straight line. Anytime you have droop or anything other than a straight line the coils will rub against each other. Severe cases you can hear the springs popping. This rapid movement is what causes springs to wear out prematurely. I have no trouble with lubing the center bearing and end bearings. 10 or 11 ball bearing nylon rollers really quite up a door. Anywhere you see a black ir gray dust on the sections, struts or hinges it is telling you that you are having metal to metal wear. Loosen the the hinge screws and adjust the alignment along with lubing the pivots.
