This is just a cloth rubbing machine instead and it took a hour to "wash" that small load. A Direct Drive would had washed that in 30 minutes, or even less.

My neighbor next to my grandmother house (with the Kenmore Direct Drive and Hotpoint Hydrowave) had a VMW washer that shaked so violently to the point that they ended up replacing it with a Direct Drive.

One important detail: Fire Alarms are NOT "living creatures", but an electrical device, similar to washing machines. Even a PC computer, AI, Tesla Cars and Robots are not living creatures, but complex electrical devices made with million of transistors.

Did this need any modification? The ge agitator should fit right into the shaft rigjt? Also, why is the upper part wobbling so badly? Would a new agitator have the same problem?

I don't think any top-loader washer was designed to wash comforters or other bedding. That's a job for heavy duty front-loaders at the laundromat. Otherwise, good and unique washer.

And there is the issue with this type of pulsator. 100% Cotton sheets and other bedding would do just fine. ANY kind of blended fabric sheets and comforters will just get blown-up with air and sit there. The 1-18 was just as bad. IMO the best of the classic Frigidaire cleaning systems was a traditional "Three-Ring" pulsation system. If loaded properly, tangling was not a problem.

Wow, you're good at all these things. All I really know how to do is clean up the machine and make it look good but I can't get under the skin and do anything there like you can.
