Mr Brice: I respect your point of view, but, if I were the Orioles, I would offer him a contract for 5 years and $250M, opting about in his third year. 7 years seems too much!

They've refused to make the trade for aces that would win them a WS, instead comfortable to hang around wild card playoff contention and early exits. Ravens are playing the same "we hold our own" approach to early playoff exits. Other franchises focus on winning divisions, conferences and championships and pull the triggers accordingly. Baltimore teams settle too much.

30m per year for 8+ years. Always great to see when you spend other peoples money. Remember the same argument about Glenn Davis. If you tie 300m in Burnes you may hamstring this team for the next 5 years. Unlike Davis, I do like Burnes. Not sure how deep the owner's pockets are. Is going to be Texas hold'em and go all in on the chance or play the long game. We will see.

I just want to know whether or not our new owner is freewheeling "Old Angelos" who threw money around to put up an all-star team in the late 90's or penny-pinching "Old Angelos" who had us going through misery for years. Or something in between? After a year, we're still looking conservative and safe, just a bit smarter.
@BrianJones-cu2sx15 сағат бұрын
I feel that. I think considering the size of Baltimores market, we need to be a little more conservative and responsible when it comes to spending unlike a team like the Mets. If Chris Davis put us in the red for over a decade, what would the Verlander and Scherzer contracts have done to our team? But now, it seems as if we have one of the richest owners in sports, Rubenstein along with some of the minority owners all run hedge funds worth hundreds of billions of dollars. When Rubenstein says he bought the team to give back to Baltimore, I believe him.. and I don’t think he lacks the intellect that would tell him we’re in a special window and the time to win is now. Paying Corbin now with an option say 5-7 years down the line could give us an opportunity to extend Adley, Gunnar, Colton, Grayson, etc. or who knows. Maybe Rubenstein balls out and we become a destination for high end feee agents as well
@mizereeman13 сағат бұрын
Spoiler alert: It has nothing to do with Rubenstein. Elias is too risk averse for long deals, Rubenstein has said he'll pay for the players Elias wants. Place your blame accordingly when Burnes signs somewhere else.

AJ would most likely looking for MLB ready pre arb solutions for pitching and OF for 2025. If offer doesn’t start with Hjerstad or Mayo there is no reason to deal. No Sasaki would make it more unlikely. They will be content w dropping QO on both Cease and Aerrez riding out 2025 and getting two picks as compensation. Padres have naming rights on the stadium up after the 25 season and have been negotiating w viewing partner. Both would strongly suggest they aren’t gona make it a fire sale like is being reported nationally. Let’s not confuse a new focus on fiscal responsibility for being cheap. Aerrez and Cease won’t be extended. Robert Suarez will opt out of his last 2yrs with them being well below market rate. Hosmer dead money gone all adds up to most 50M off the 2025 CBT number. The Padres will still most likely have a payroll starting w a 2. CBT penalty has reset; 244M for then first penalty level is hardly a red line not to cross.

The Orioles are highly unlikely to trade a player the level of Mayo or Kjerstad for what could possibly be a one-year rental. They simply can't afford to keep burnung through their system without getting more than just a season back from the incoming player. There has to be an extension or no deal.
@alancarpenter287Күн бұрын

I'm viewing this as more of a fallback in case they can't get him back. Someone will be signing him soon, hopefully the Orioles, but if he goes elsewhere then Cease is a good option. What's intriguiing regarding Burnes is that his agent, Scott Bpras, still is communicating with the O's about him. Of course, he could be signing elsewhere as I type this, but getting him back would be HUGE!
