I've tried to utilize Blade in the past but I find it to be unreliable with how I approach the game (I have trouble executing the extension drill attack).

@KikenEnryu oh the down down right where it really extends out? It seems to me like it did the most damage than the other weapons minus the flash of course. I loved extending out the blade into the bosses and watched the damaged parts almost instantly fly off them. Using it on the regular units was like a wand of instant death.

I love how ridiculous his stage is. 1. No enemies. 2. Suddenly, groups of every enemy in the game, all at once. And that's it. No buildup, just one huge burst of chaos. Treasure level design at its finest.

2:09:40 I love this game but I could NEVER, EVEN TO THIS DAY, get past this particular part. It drives me crazy because I do generally pretty well but as soon as I'm at that part, game over, I can never get past.

The back half of stage 5 is a pain and is definitely a section I had to spend quite a bit of time routing, and even then, it still manages to throw a curve-ball at me every now and then.

It works up until the slower secondary spread starts to come out, then you get these lingering bullets which make everything much more difficult to dodge.

Nice work! You'll have the 1CC in no time. I'm revisiting Zed Blade myself at the moment and getting to about the same point. The scoring is silly but this is one of the few games in which declining to engage with its 'systems' doesn't ruin it. :p

I am playing on Normal (not Easy or Free). It should be noted that there are differences between the Japanese and North American release of the game which is why the score tables are separated by region on the Shmups Forum.

Yeah, I wanted to use it as a derust and initial stream game (plus I just wanted to pull out the Neo Geo AES again). It's still one of my fave Neo Geo shmups.

If there’s one thing I hate in this game it’s the fact that the final level makes you start over from the beginning of the level. I really hate that because it artificially extends playtime and it frustrates me to no end aka makes me rage quit. Worse yet, there’s zero option to increase lives or gain them during play. It’s like Psikyo games where later levels make you start over from the beginning and Vasara is guilty of that too. Why not have a checkpoint in between the stage like Gunvein did? And that game was recent too. Why wasn’t it thought of before?🤨 Oh well. This is what I call dick moves by the programmers in an attempt to make you spend more coins in the cabinet. Besides death by walls/obstacles, this is my biggest shmup pet peeve. As an STG fan, I know that pain all too well.

"You can do it!" It signifies when a boss form is about to die, allowing you to set up for scoring tactics.

Used to play this all the time taking turns with my friends to see how far we could get. Needless to say we weren't that good. This game is sooo good with an excellent soundtrack. Wish I still had it for my PS1.

Blazing Star was planned to have a port to CD, absolute fucking tragedy that it didn't come out as the sub-sequel feels much shorter, a tinsy bit less developed with it's stage design and we'll never get to hear the amazing music in CD quality, forever cursed with PCM samples

I'm surprised you didn't get the 1-up at stage 3. Did you forgot the requirements, or did you not even know it was here?

There are 3 criteria for triggering the stage 3 extend: 1. Destroy all 6 components on the stage 3 midboss. 2. Enter zetsu at the end of the stage and fire at the circular area on the left. 3. Do not use Guard Barrier from the moment the stage 3 midboss appears until the extend is uncovered. While fighting the first large flying balista after the midboss, I got clipped while in zetsu which caused the auto guard barrier to discharge. This cancelled the extend from appearing.

How's the Switch ver compare to arcade/DC ver?

It's definitely overclocked (there's no slowdown at all). Also, there are some oddities with how the wind lasers lock on to enemies. Aside from that, it's close enough that by making small alterations to how I play, I can compensate for how this version behaves vs the NAOMI/DC versions.

GG Kiken! Really enjoyed the run, in particular for some original routing both for chaining (pretty cool Chapter 1 end) and dot eating. I ignore your overall PB on Ika but potential for an higher score is definitely there
