Equipping the pickaxe vs carrying it makes no difference on mining speed but it does make it more efficient since you get the 1 extra inventory space for if you need to mine ores later in case you need to level smithing for a clue step. I have no idea if you ever will, but I'm not very familiar with clue steps.

Hello, fellow max caper here. I just received a 2 day bot busting moderate ban and I know exactly why. I work from home, this week my hours were cut and therefore I have more hours to play than usual. I was playing for 18-20 hours a day going for 200M's and pulled an all nighter a day before my ban. I play extremely efficiently, something about RS brings the autism out in me. I have never used a third party bot/client in my life. I've submitted a truthful appeal to Jagex, will keep you guys updated...
