very good review, SCANDAL is a very important band since my childhood and one of their first songs I heard was shogo S in the openings of season 10 of Bleach, I recently went back to listen to the new and old albums out of pure curiosity. It's a great band! I hope that one day the Spanish-speaking community will be larger. Greetings from Chile🇨🇱🎸🔥

insane considering ask you tonight, superstitious, and another life are the best tracks the vocals and instrumentation of these tracks just make you feel something, how loud and powerful yet emotional the post chorus of ask you tonight, sultry and smoothness of superstitious, and man sometimes I do cry at another life. it’s just those things that the last tracks do so well to invoke that feeling of nostalgia, those tracks get to me, they speak to the heart, specifically my heart, and those three songs really make me feel something I haven’t felt in pop a lot, I love it

A pretty respectable take on the album. Can't say I strongly disagree with you on any point. Those more electronic, low-key tracks you mentioned sound like they were influenced by Daniel Armbruster's side project "Best Frenz". The track Splendor actually sounds like it could fit right in on their album "The Mall" that they released last year as part of that project. I definitely prefer the more indie-sounding tracks as well.

Great video, this is my first video of yours. I never watched the show as a kid, but as a teen/young adult got into it. I have to say this album is slight above average for the rating. It did not have to be as good as it is, but I also feel that the boys have a long way to go to define their music and make an even bigger impact. Great first comeback/ stepping stone album.

this was a great review! the stand-out tracks for me were definitely arson and safety zone. arson edges into first place purely for how good the live version is - i love the instrumentals for the lollapalooza performance. safety zone is the best lyrically on the album and probably my 2nd favourite lyrics of his. (blue side is first because i love how abstract it is) more is a track i have mixed feelings about. i like the nu-metal sound and vibe with the chorus and the cocky energy of the verses. but i find the base quite weak. and i really dont like the eeny, meeny, miny, moe part. it sticks out as goofy in an otherwise serious song. but i like the attempt to do something completely different from both his and bts previous sound. hope world was adored by his fans and so it was brave to do something completely different. i think out of all the members solo projects, he took the most risks and as a result created the most exciting album. (perhaps why i dont like d-day and golden very much - both play a bit too safe) i also partially agree about equal sign. i appreciate the attempt to do a more out-ward looking track about the world as a contrast to the introspective personal tracks. i like personal tracks but i always appreciate it when artists talk about something other than themselves lol. i also like how he show-cased his vocals to contrast the rap-heavy tracks. however i think the chorus lets the song down a bit. i dont think it is terrible - just slightly cheesy. i think this is because of the attempt to do a more socially conscious track whilst also avoiding being controversial. sort of a vague "peace and love" with no real substance. this made the song feel a bit sanitised. like i wasnt expecting radical social theory, but i think songs like this always feel a bit empty. ultimately i think it is an album that shines when performed. even equal sign sounded earnest and genuine during the lollapalooza performance. and future is miles better on stage - more kpop performances need live bands!

I was older when the show came out, although I did watch it every now and then. Their songs were ok. I hadn’t thought of BTR in years when I went down a nostalgia rabbit hole of Hillary Duff and JoJo and they popped up on my playlist. I had forgotten all about them and discovered they had this new album out and were actually touring again. This album hit me harder than I would have ever expected and I’m still bumping it around town. I ended up even going to their concert when they came to town on their tour. I accidentally became a full on Rusher over this. I even went back and listened to their old songs and decided they were better than I thought. So it was actually this album that got me into old BTR instead of old BTR getting me into this album lol
@GenesisJames Жыл бұрын
That's awesome!! Call it nostalgia or whatever, but I always felt they were a lot more genuine compared to the other Nick acts at the time and I feel they always wanted to be seen as genuine artists and entertainers. I think this album shows that since it actually demonstrates growth rather than rehashing nostalgia of their old sounds

You can't have a generation z or millennial critque 80's music. He wasn't even alive when naked eyes came out. Also they were more than just a one hit wonder. The first 2 tracks are defiantly the weakest, but i feel as though they come into their own 'melt' onwards with 1960 being the perfect inbetweener and complimenter to helluva. I got some sugar vibes from the last few tracks, but they were able to make them have their own unique sound, and while birds and rhythm is very light, it's one of my go to feel good songs. I'm pretty damn obsessed with this band and i was over the moon when they came back and landed on spotify for more people to discover. My biggest dream would be for them to tour in america, but while it seems so far away i can only hope their recent popularity spike would convince them to at some point.

I really enjoyed your review!! So much that I went and looked at your other videos too haha, and you're really honest and insightful, subscribed for sure. As for this particular review, I appreciate the focus on instrumentals and tone, and overall theme n concept. You didn't expect the album to be so hip-hop focused but I have learned that this guy lives and loves hip hop. Now you know too haha.. Equal Sign and Future aren't my favourites off the tracklist but I do appreciate them and I think he did a pretty good job with the positiveness, imo it's JUST right, it brings out the "delicate side" you mentioned Pandora's Box has. Maybe I feel this way because I've already listened to his first mixtape, Hope World, which is in amazing contrast to this album. I would love a review on that, though that one's even shorter, lol. Still has amazing songs. My least favourite part about this album too is its length. Someone already mentioned that it was meant to be a mixtape before change of plans for release so I guess it makes sense. Overall, I love this album a lot. A bit off topic but: 5:48, least informed part of the video, cuz I have no idea what you're referring to when you say "the performances were pretty great more often than not" 😅 I have watched every performance this guy has given after releasing this album and I have failed to find a single second where he's not smashing it on stage.. I have yet to find any other Korean, or k-pop act that is as good a performer as j-hope. Heck, there's no one that competes in the west currently either. Anyways you might have meant it purely positively, or somehow just don't like his style (impossible). You do music reviews but I'd love to see you analyze a performance if that's up your alley or if you're up to it. I liked this review, keep 'em coming! Hope you don't get swarmed with BTS fans any time in the future 'cause SOME of them refuse to understand the concept of music reviews and that people are allowed to have opinions.. 🙁 Please continue with the j-hope analyses though, he does have a fandom of music lovers that will and do appreciate you.

thank you for reviewing jack in the box!! pls tell us your thoughts on his previous mixtape hope world too. bc the "positive" side of jack in the box can date back to hope world which was generally more upbeat and was what fans and the public used to know about him until jack in the box. as for future, i have to disagree w you bc i love the vocal sample and percussion. the producer of future was brasstracks. they also produced chance the rapper's no problem which won grammys. imo future's vocal sample isn't annoying at all esp compared to what they did in chance's song lol. and "trying hard to be positive" was pretty much his attitude towards life even if he's introspective and also had hard times. so even with the seemingly positive beats that's still who he is and what he wanted to say in his music. same reason for the album cover choice. as for arson, the song was more than him saying haters cant stop him. that's just the lyrics in the first part. there in the second part of the song he was actually talking about being pedestalled, fame made things out of control and he was burnt out, thought about less is more, time to quit, etc etc (i didnt see ppl get it probably bc they cant imagine a bts mmbr having such "dangerous" thoughts lol) so these two parts formed the antithesis and as he said that was the crossroad he was faced with at that time. he raised the question during the refrain and left it unresolved. sorry if my comment is too long bc i paid too much attention to him and had a lot to say lol. anyways still thank you for appreciating the album. it was originally planned as a mixtape, didnt even have physical version. so maybe that's why songs were so short. let's look forward to his next solo project. also enjoyed your review on jid, arctic monkeys and gorillaz, those were my fav records recently. good luck with your channel!!
@marysal4755 Жыл бұрын
oh have to mention he made this album during the pandemic. he communicated with producers totally through the internet and never met them in person let alone having studio sessions with them. he basically communicated, got the beat and recorded the songs himself, at the same time while being occupied with bts activities. so i think he can still improve a lot when he comes back next time. he surely knows what he's doing.
