Because people have the idea of meeting the perfect one, or they just want to fornicate and not marry. And both things are toxic, because nobody is perfect and marrying is a lifelong commitment that involves hard work and isn't just the feeling of the moment. If people search for the perfect one, they will never settle with anyone, not even after marriage because they will think there is somebody better out there.

It happens sometimes when couples marry early, neither man or woman has time to develop and mature in trial and error relationships. Clearly Janine was more mature and didn't need the same experiences Ben did. Since Ben only had Janine, he wanted to experience more. Even if he didn't meet Anna... Even if he has some kids with Janine... he will probably cheat sooner or later. But he lied to her. Lying is worse. Lying shows a lack of morals and a liar can't be trusted. That's why she divorces him. I like how the end of the movie shows Ben checking out a girl at the supermarket. It's like, he wanted to be free to play games with girls so now he gets his wish. Ana will never get with Ben because Ben lied to Anna also. He stuffed her in a closet while he lied to his wife. So Anna knows his true nature and will never go to him. Women often choose poorly with guys. They choose someone familiar, because maybe they also lack the courage to choose the right one. We're all just people who have lots of messed up experiences so sometimes it's hard to love and be vulnerable. Ultimately the main character Gigi is the most vulnerable so she is (for a brief moment anyway) rewarded with her love (who knows how long it lasts). Also the guy on the boat was vulnerable because he never replaced his lover and stayed true to her.

I learned this lesson at a very young age. I assume that every man is the same until I get to know him. If a man compliments me, I say thank you and keep it moving. I made this mistake once and I've never done it again.
