Nice video Ryan! Have you tried the 135 f/1.8 GM, I LOVE THAT LENS. When the undated 85mm GM finally comes out I might invest in that. Where did you get your lens covers? Thanks!

Thank you, sir! You know, I haven’t tried that lens but I REALLY want to. I’m also curious to see what that updated 85 will be like. These lens caps are made by polar pro, you can find them on their website. If you check out my shorts you’ll find one I made about them :)

Excellent choices, I own both and a few others as well. What I personally gravitate to for my client photography work is the 24mm f1.4 GM and the Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN. For my travels it mostly depends on where I’m going, but nowadays I tend to bring along the 14mm f1.4 GM, the 24-70mm GM II, and the 70-200mm GM II.
@RYANROOTPHOTOАй бұрын
Man, I keep reading that 70-200 GM ii in these comments. So many that I just feel like I have to get my hands on one to at least try for a bit. Would pair nicely to my 24-70 gm ii.... 🤷🏻♂️🫠

@mobbaddictchannelАй бұрын
Probably a sharper lens and better dynamic range. But as he said it mostly depends on the kind of experience you're after. I have a Pixel phone which takes nice pictures but I only use it for casual photography.
@RYANROOTPHOTOАй бұрын
Not making the case that it is! Modern cell phones are great tools, but as I mentioned in the video I just prefer a dedicated camera for my photography as it makes it feel like more of a priority to me and not so much of an afterthought. Whatever works for the shooter!

I wonder if the Ricoh GRiiix is for me. I just purchased one. I am struggling with setting this thing up. I do street photography and I think many GR users are in that camp. The other camp is as an EDC for those with big rigs like you. Besides the camera fighting me as ai try to set it up, I know I will struggle with not having an EVF. I knew this going into GR world. Simply stated, I’m an EVF user for composing. I hope I can get into the one handed point and shoot mode so many GR users use. I am digging the high contrast B&W mode. Very contrasty. Crunch those blacks. Very sharp lens. Who doesn’t love the size and low weight? Battery life? Wasabi batteries are cheap. Carrying a couple extra batteries comes with the small and lightweight body. I bought mine from craigslist for $700. For a body and lens that is an OK price. I am hoping to love the GR. As suggested, this thing is resisting being set up for everyday use. I’m hoping to resolve this issue. There are a lot of Ricoh GR fans. They all can’t Be wrong. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
@RYANROOTPHOTOАй бұрын
Love this comment. I will say that the setting up and familiarizing aspect of this camera is a challenge, at least was for me. There is a KZbinr named Adrien Sanguinetti who goes into detail on how he sets this up, I suggest diving into some of his Ricoh videos, I essentially use his set up method. As for the lacking EVF I totally understand your apprehension. I will say though that you DO adapt. There are a lot of "spray and pray" moments, and thats exactly where the snap auto focus comes into play. Like you, I use the high contast B&W mode as well and actually use this camera as my daily black and white documentation/capture. I am going to make a video on here why I use it this way. I hope you get to enjoy this camera :)

When I used to do weddings and other events I could get away with a 28/35mm 1.4 prime and a 70-200 f2.8 zoom. These days I do more landscape and sport/nature/wildlife. Three lenses (although I own four/five). A 20mm 1.8G, a 50mm 1.8G, and my two portrait lenses the 70-200 and the amazing Nikkor 85mm 1.4G, one of my dream lenses. Most days though, I use a 28mm (Ricoh GRiii) and either the 50mm 1.8 or the 85mm 1.4 as my walk around street/portrait kit. If I had to choose ONLY two lenses, gun to my head? 20mm 1.8G and the 85mm 1.4G. 100% (although I would miss the 50mm normal perspective)

I am more of a mix-and-match for the day's purpose. Outdoor festivals: Only one is enough. Tamron 35-150mm Indoor events: Sony 35 F1.4, Sony 20-70 (room and small space) and Tamron 35-150 (key speech, normally in a bigger hall) Outdoors for fun: 35mm F1.4 and 50mm F1.2 (as normally it involves portrait) and 20-70 on the video camera. Tight space due to weight and can only take one lens, I'll go for 20-70.
