Fantastic Playing and Rendition. It always amazes me how Mason & Hamlin pianos sound so much larger than they are! The overtones are also so different than any other piano make.

I agree. As someone who has spent a lifetime rebuilding pianos, please know the M&H is my favorite piano made in this country, not only because they are easy to work on and that they practically 'tune themselves'. It's tone is unique in its clarity and bell like sound. This particular one is a good vintage and someone will enjoy it for the next half century.

@@FordPiano I wish you were in Georgia. I have a MH BB1 that was sold by a church. It was pushed aside in their choir room because it was old. It was on Craigslist and I just had to buy it because I thought the price was a scam. It has the original hammers and strings. It still sounds great but I hope someday it will be brought back to it's full potential.

@@brentaudi9354 We do ship pianos reasonably within the 48 states. I've always said that if I were marooned on a deserted island and had a choice of just one piano, it would be a double B. A nine footer has more volume for folks in the cheap seats, but the sound is not prettier than a double B. At their time of manufacture, M&H was the most expensive piano made in this country and certainly the heaviest one made on the planet. Glad you have one - they're rare. Enjoy it!

it varies from 3/8" to 1/2". We have a bunch of different sizes between those two. We determine which one feels best and we use that one. Don't remember which one was used on the Baldwin in the video. Thanks for watching.

Ahh. So I understand this right, Samick bought the rights or copied the design of the original Mathushek and now produces them with the mathushek logo? Do they only produce this grand or other mathushek models as well?

Is the string just put through the hole in the tuning pin, or is there some bend or so where it comes out the other end of that hole to stop it from unwinding?

@Martel211996 You know...People play for the fun of it, not to have their styles criticized. My mother has been an exceptional piano player over the years and one of the things I hate absolutely while being taught is that I am doing something wrong. By then, I play something really the opposite of what I'm suppose to do and I play Jazz at the sound of the words. I don't take it lightly and I'm sure most people don't either. So by all means, don't criticize!

@BrentAudi - check out the video of my 1993 R. While the 5th octave still needs work; this has a set of renner blues hung on it .I was bored; and thought i'd give it a try.

he is actually turning the capstan with the tool that is almost like an ice pick, inserting the tool into holes drilled into the capstan sides, raising the capstan which in turn raises the whippen, which in turn raises the hammer shank, allowing the jack to trip out properly to achieve some aftertouch which has become lost due to settling and time....

Hi Max, I had a piano just like this one that I sold 20 years ago. Mine had a matching bench. The case was awesome. This video exposes many flaws in regulation--back checks, mostly. But the fact that the modifier switch is in "Subdue" is really peculiar, and there is almost no expression. Oh Well.

Ahh, excuse my ignorance, but this is not Chopin. This is a wreck. the piano sounds good, but the playing. So much to work on. The pedal, the touch!!! The begingin page is played in piano! Are you a teacher? But if you play as a hobby, than it is not my place to critisize.

She plays Liszt´s Un Sospiro, the somewhat usual way of crossing hands. I have worked hard against this, and it is possible to avoid this, with retained continuity, playing naturally without crossing. It is a sport to learn this!! Anyone else dare to try?

You'll find plenty of people telling you that similarly prized and sized C. Bechstein, Bösendorfer, Fazioli (higher prized and sized in that case), or Blüthner pianos are the best piano in the world, and all of them have a point. We're talking about a level of quality where it starts being a matter of preference and the question of which is best becomes pretty much meaningless. One thing is certain though: This is a very, very fine instrument indeed.
