I can't watch anymore. This. Little girl should not be on a dirt bike. Accident waiting to happen. She rides like it's her 1st day.No confidence no aggressiveness. This is so stupid. I live in perump and i've always wondered about the wheeler pass trial. Super weak super frail stands up when she should be sitting down, sitting down when she should be standing. Can't work the rocks. Most pathetic writer i've ever seen, if you're gonna put on motocross gear and ride, unbelievable. What is it twenty tip overs. Worst rider ever. Please. Don't ever ride in a big ride like that again. Just stay on the little trails close to home. I would never ever let my little girl go through something like that. Obviously nobody ever took the time to train her. Absolutely. Terrible rider. No skills no knowledge no courage

For the first half of the video was the bike not in first gear? Or does that bike need like 15 more teeth on the rear sprocket? The engine was really loaded up. I had a couple of 690 Super Motos. They were geared pretty tall for dirt, and the engines were definitely revers, not luggers. Their top end was insane for a single that large. Worked great for a sumo. Not sure how that all works out on an "enduro" bike though. Been thinking about getting the 690 E-R, but honestly this video is making me reconsider a bit. Seems like gearing is all wrong, which if it is the same as the sumo, would make sense.

I tried each hill several times. Sometimes I would start in second and others in first to try and get a feel for what the bike wanted. I am geared down from stock. Swapping sprockets is pretty easy too. There is another video of a guy riding his 690 on some singletrack in washington I think. Just posted a few days ago. He is a much better rider than me and is a better descriptor of what this bike is capable of. Don't skip the bike based on my video, you would be doing yourself a disservice.

@dune7824
@dune7824 4 ай бұрын
Same here. Must be some pitfalls with it. I mean the DR650 could be the ultimate middleweight adventure bike and in many ways it already is. It is however a pretty unexciting platform in terms of power. While the 790 kit gives about 50rwhp those ponies are produced at half the RPM of say a 450 MX bike and the torque is doubled. Would put it ahead of the Tenere and KTM690 which need to be revved pretty high to get the power out of them. I suspect fuel economy may be poor and all that torque may considerably lower the reliability.

I ride the 690 on British Columbia tight blue single track all day long. It is sometimes a bit of a challenge to navigate the bike through tight steep sections where I sometimes have to either slide the back end around the corner or get off and drag the front into the right position past stumps, roots and rocks. It just forces you to be really mindful of technique where a smaller bike lets you get away with more unless you are doing the hardcore black or red trails. I hope to try some blacks this season, it all depend on who I am riding with, I won't do them alone. You have some interesting dry terrain with a lot of prickly objects off trail lol.

The terrain here, as with most deserts can be very prickly. This was my first time on some of these trails and now that I have ridden them I feel more confident in riding them alone. Its minutes from my house which means I can get a lot of practice in. Something I would say I need.

Interesting question as per title of this vid. We tried the same thing here a few years ago with a bunch of 690's and 650L's. I'm stll riding a 650L now. Its good to get rid of some weight on these heavy bikes - makes a world of difference. Got my L to around 145kg tank full and it was a great single track bike. For a 650...

@duckinaroundadventures
@duckinaroundadventures 10 ай бұрын
I would argue the point about "no change in gearing" unless you really hate your clutch or want a rekluse. The video doesn't do the steepness and looseness of the hills any justice for sure. But you are correct, I am no black diamond singletrack rider. Singletrack is still a little new to me, and this is all the name of progression and learning.

Thanks for the tire tips guys, I put Tusk Dsports on and hate them in sand here in Michigan. Gonna swap them out this summer. I swear they are the hardest compound tire I have ever installed. Do you guys run rim locks? Do you balance them? If so what weights do you use? I installed rim locks on the stem side because my Dsports are so hard I couldn't get it on the far side. It caused me to have to use 4 spoke weights on each rim to balance. I noticed there were no weights from the factory. I'm just curious what you guys did? I'll probably put them back with no rim locks. It depends on how hard the new tires are.

I have a 18 701 with normal mods. The motor is not a great lugger. Its like KTM just put the wrong cams in the bike, and it's much better in the open stuff in the top half of the rpm range. Frustrating down low on singletrack for me; there's simultaneously no power with the bike wanting to stall, but the power pulses that are there can make the back tire slip a little unexpectedly and send ya off course. It's not the most precise trail bike I've been on, that's for sure.

Great Vid, glad to see more people showing the 690 is more capable than they want to admit. Some clutch work on those hill climbs instead of bogging will help. Load that flywheel up and you'll keep more traction. Also, you'll notice when you carry more speed your suspension was able to work better over those baby heads. Soft stuff ain't easy especially when you have rocks bouncing your front end around.

@russperry3000
@russperry3000 10 ай бұрын
The problem with a lot of clutch work is that the 690 will chew the plates up quick and leave you stranded. With that tall stock gearing you’ll have to be running at least 20mph in 1st to avoid fanning the clutch to keep the engine from stalling. That’s OK if you’re a really good rider that can carry a lot of speed even in the tougher spots.

It is a bit of a handful but as you ride in that stuff more, it becomes easier. That's not to say that it does as well as much lighter bikes though. Gearing also helps and learning to slide the rear around helps with some of the tighter stuff too.
