Glad you are recovering. I have a K1600GT. I assumed gravel in the road after watching your video. Take care and best of luck.

Russell the bike sounds great. Looking forward to getting my Remus exhaust installed over the winter months here in Canada. A question for you though......how did you mount your guardian bell in that location on the bottom / rear of your saddlebag?

I’ve spent a lot of time traveling the country on a RT 1200 then a K1600. While the 1600 was the most comfortable of the two on highways, I always missed the RT. While watching your video I couldn’t help reflecting on how things can go wrong in an instant. Almost being hurt multiple times once women started texting put an end to my motorcycle days. I’ll always miss it though.

Somehow I’ve never spent time in Yosemite, but things like this 15:39 are so amazing. Another aspect of our planet. Sorry for the hard fall man! Happens quick! I once went down on a damp freeway on-ramp but that was a simple low side on an R1150R. Hope your recovery goes well. I once had to stay off the bike for about 5 months after mountain bike anterior dislocation of my left clavicle. It was just too sore to handle a bike. Take care in the meantime man! Dave in OC.

What an absolute a-hole of a state trooper. Didn't come to see if you were alright or needed any assistance at the hospital, just came for an easy ticket to write. You should also register a complaint to his department as he was not present to actually determine your speed at the time of the accident.

Cops go out of their way to demonstrate their ignorance and earn the hate. He sees nothing, hears nothing, smells nothing, but knows what happened. Don't even talk to them, they are worthless.

The way it looked on the turn was similar when your wheel grabs one of those Carolina tar snakes, I call them, that runs parallel with the wheel, especially a fresh one, they're sticky as all hell and grab the wheel, but I didnt see any on the slo-mo

i agree. Pirelli should drop those 2 parallel grooves on front tyre. I had the same issue driving across Europe and those grooves interferes with painted lines or grooves in the road itself and catch on to it... And sometimes it throws you off guard. I don't like the front tyre. Its a safety issue for me.

Thanks for posting park attractions and the road hazard and crash. I've been riding an '06 r1200rt with Kenda KM1 tires which stick like glue on clean pavement, but I'd guess would slide just as quick cornering on gravel sprinkles. Good luck on finding some rehab exercise routine. Canoe paddling for an hour is good for upper body and hand grip.

I usually brake before curves that look like they have some liquid spilled on them or variations in the color of the road. Next time, it's important to reduce speed a bit and avoid leaning the motorcycle too much. Good luck!

What a bummer man. And to have that cop give you a ticket is beyond shitty. Being that most of your injuries were in your chest area have you considered an airbag vest for future rides? I wear a Klim and it gives me some peace of mind.

I just purchased an AlpineStar Tech 3 to protect my chest, ribs and clavicles. They seem to be the areas most injured after having an accident. Thank you for the video and information. Hope you recover and get back on your ride.

Glad you're okay. Shit vid. You caused the crash. It wasn't the universe piling gravel in the center of the road or anything else. All you, dude. And not a mention of your thoughts on the cause.

Wow! That was a very spectacular crash! Yeah, I couldn't tell the gravel from the road as well. I'm glad you're ok and wish you a very speedy recovery. Hope you get back on two-wheels again soon. Any updates on the bike and what the insurance "man" has said?

The video shows some fine grey gravel on your riding line. Your front tyre washed out on the gravel and then secured traction again once you cleared the gravel line, thus causing the mid corner tank slapper. Your speedo shows that your speed was fine for the conditions. It’s just one of those things, not much you can do about it. It looks like you may have instinctively grabbed a handful of front brake and if so, you might have stayed upright with more gentle break application but it’s difficult to be certain on that point. Well done for sharing the video - we can all learn from the accident.

At least he was able to scrubb 30 miles an hour (from 60) before leaving the bike. Still, 30 m/h (about 50 km/h) is no joke to be flying off with.

Glad you’re ok. Gravel could get any of us. Protective gear did as much as it could. I’m on a Grand America and have lost the back tire a little on gravel, but never the front. It happens, and thats a rare recovery without a high side at speed.

Great videos! I have traveled some of these roads a few times and never get tired of them. Thanks for sharing that awful crash and the aftermath. I sure hope you're healing quickly. Pretty sorry deed for the Trooper to write you a ticket. I don't see how this helped make the road safer for motorists. Happy Trails!
