Awesome sermon Glory Be To God

So many people have a negative reaction to this fake sounding emotionally over the top, performative style of public speaking. Just talk normal. You don't need to add to the message with these theatrics. The message is solid on its own but all that extra inflection makes it seem like snake oil.

It's not so much that he expected them to have known the storm would've responded to his words, but that he would've taken care of the storm and calmed it. It's also metaphorical for the storms we go through and how we need to have faith that he will take care of our problems as it states in Matt 6:31-33 worry is for people who don't believe. The whole point of the chapter was for us to understand that he Is disappointed when we try to handle our own issues or look at the problem instead of letting him handle it as it shows we don't trust him enough to deal with them.

Religion is just a convenient tool to control the masses. Religion is effective because it’s a coping mechanism for people’s fear of death.

Shawn bless you and your family. My two granddaughters have lived the same childhood as yourself. Because I have witnessed this and know what you are talking about it draws me to you, for you know! To overcome this is incredible, you give me hope. Much love and respect, Christianity needs people who have walked through the valley of hell so you can tell us there is light and to keep going.

“A guarantee is us seeing what we’re hoping for start to happen, and then start to move. Faith is an invitation to act before anybody else can see in reality what you see in your spirit. Faith that pleases God is an invitation to act regardless of the results.” What a word.

If you need a stage set-up like that (carbon footprint, m-kay?) and a book to be a kind, compassionate person, you have MUCH bigger problems. Nobody needs a book and weekly meetings to not be a dick to other people.

Notice how the married people are spoken to as a unit. Even though single people are told that their singleness doesn’t define them. Notice how they’re struggles are validated. How they’re allowed to find life difficult. Single people - not so much - we’re always ‘missing the point’. Like we’re kids that aren’t mature enough to love God and want marriage. We must just be missing the point and are just not Godly enough to be content, like married people are. Even though they’re not the ones avoiding tv shows and songs because they won’t feel bad about being alone and are actually allowed to have sexual gratification. They don’t have to repress every sexual thought, but they get empathy for the less thoughts they do suppress. They still get fulfilment - do they know what it’s like to have NONE long term. No, but they think that will be fixed by doing lots of work - and having no free time to rest as a single person.

I wonder if married people are ever told to be more kind in the way that they speak to single people. That’s if they ever acknowledge that single people exist except for when they expect single people to be doing some kind of service - or when they stop talking about how great marriage and sex is, long enough to tell the single person that they’re idolatrous and wrong for wanting marriage. That they must be envious, or spiritually immature to think that marriage could be make them happier - you know even though married people say that ALL the time. They’ll tell us we’re making up the pressure to get married. It’s not like we have a biological clock or something, and married women talk about their babies 24/7, no. It’s just all in our head…
