that drummer is a monster! Love his playing on this.
Doug Boyle really helped set the tone for the album with his magical fingers. Excruciatingly beautiful music

I'm seeing comments here about Mr. Parkening's bright tone with the piece. If I were to guess, Mr. Parkening's approach to this piece being that he's playing it so brightly is because the piece was originally written for Lute which is a much brighter instrument than the modern day classical guitar.

Man this sounds good. Imagine how much better had he been playing a Stratocaster instead of that Ibanez garbage.

This popped up in my feed today. I often hear critiquing comments about Parkening's unorthodox right hand. Specifically playing so much with the index finger or the same finger. It's always about the musicality but more specifically here, playing with the "I" finger keeps the tone more consistent. Try playing this piece or any piece with alternating "i" and "m" fingers on the same string with the melody and you can hear the difference. It's dramatic. That's Parkening for you. Brilliant!

Thank you for the comment. I'm self taught and now am incorporating p i fingering into my scales. Except for Chris and Anna Vidovic, I don't listen to guitarists. I prefer musicians like Midori or Yo Yo ma.

@@robertallen1527 Parkening's tone and musical expression is second to none. I told him once that he was a better player than Segovia. He is.

@@cfmill74 I agree. A serious student should surpass his/her maestro eventually. I misspoke. I also listen to Pepe Romero (Chris' teacher I think) and Paco Peña's flamenco.

@@robertallen1527 Yes he was. Also, he studied with a cellist. I'm guessing that's where he got such a strong and expressive vibrato. Brilliant!

@@robertallen1527 Another interesting tidbit about Segovia. He felt that Flamenco should be on one side of the mountain and classical on the other and they should never meet. :😆
