I do shotokan karate we don’t just do punching and kicking we also have elbows, knees, hammer fists and knife hands it can be very lethal in the right hands.

The question of what works or what doesn't has to do with the context of the fight. Is it for a tournament? Is it for street self-defense? Is it for military warfare? Fighting isn't just limited to two men in a ring. In my experience, karate works really well in a karate tournament. Nowhere else.
@TespriАй бұрын
Your like flat earth scientists. Just change word karate with flat earth and you will see how ridiculous your video is. Stop defending undefendable. Martial arts is all about stance. No one of those fighters used karate stances. Those kicks aren't unique to karate and one or two kicks from karate doesn't make karate good in the first place. That just means that out of thousands of moves... they only got two decent ones. Look those entire fights... You will notice that there is nothing resembling karate on what those fighters do. Mostly other styles. Another bullshido refuted.

😮 Enoda had a match against an American named Frank Smith. In the match Enoda kicked Smith with a round house kick to his jaw and broke it in 3 places, after that Frank Smith faded out of Shotokan and less was heard of him

The black and white video shown, was a Japan kumite match between Kanazawa and Enoda, Enoda got swept by Kanazawa and he lost that match in that video. However Enoda did win a return match with Kanazawa later on.

Enoeda-Sensei graded me to black belt in the mid-1980s. He had incredible charisma when he entered a room (he was the first Japanese person I had ever met, which left an indelible impression on me at eleven years old). Mentioning that I had trained with him definitely impressed my dojo mates when I moved to Japan years later.

This is one of the most concise, detailed and moving portraits of Yahara Shihan. I didn't know he had issues with the Yakuza. You guys do such quality videos, you are one of the few I trust to share and use for educational purposes. It is pure pleasure to watch Yahara Shihan in action. I certainly hope to see a portrait like this of Kagawa Shihan and Tamang Shihan. These are giants of men, the pioneers of one the world's most revered martial art. Shotokan Hai! Ossu. Thank you. GSP has been publicly called the greatest fighter in UFC history by Dana White and GSP comes from a strong kyokushin base. And let's be honest here, the human trafficking con artist Tate couldn't last one round in the cage w/Lyoto Machida nor GSP. Let's not even speak upon what would happen to Tate in a bareknuckle fight against Uechi Ryu master Shinjo Kiyohide. . .Shinjo Kiyohide killed an opponent during a kumite bout in Okinawa with an Uechi Ryu toe kick to the temple.

IF kyoshi was so good then why use other martial arts 99% of the time? xD
@jae01942 Жыл бұрын
I find it quite satisfying seeing a well placed mae geri or mawashi geri used in MMA, even a bit of a wider stance and foot work blended with other martial arts goes to show that if implemented correctly it is a very viable style in MMA. I actually didn't know Lyoto Machida did kata in his open training sessions. Fun to see him do a bit of Bassai Dai in the clip, one of my favourite katas.
@thekaratechannel Жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more. So many people bash karate so it is very satisfying indeed 😊. And yes, Machida was always promoting Shotokan during his career in the UFC, he's a great ambassador for karate .

Great video, brilliant to see this and have Sensei Enoeda's history explored in a video like this. He awarded me my Shodan many years ago, i feel very fortunate to have met him. After a long break from training to focus on family and career I have recently returned to Karate, so to see a video like this is really great.

I trained with sensei's Enoeda, Kase, Shirai, Tomita, Kawasoe on the summer course at Crystal Palace in 78, trained all week and took my Shodan on the Friday and passed, I was 13, then in early 80's my dad became Welsh team manager, so was very lucky to have spent a lot of time around the Red Triangle lads at that time and Enoeda Sensei, very nice man very approachable and always willing to pass on his knowledge

It’s not a real fight, it’s a tournament for a specific style of martial arts. You could make the same comment about , judo, tae kwon do, boxing etc etc. . If you learn to appreciate the style of tournament for what it is it will help to stop trying to compare it to a “real fight”

Respectfully your asking the wrong question sensei. I think kata wether it's wonderful traditional form and now it's modern competition form. Does not compete with eachother. I think both bring value to karate's ever evolving development. Karate will look different again in like the next 10 years or so I believe. Wether for best or not.
