What course should I take to become a creative director?
@packagingunboxd6 күн бұрын
That's a great question. There are a few schools that are offering Creative Direction studies, but the truth is that Creative Directors come from many different fields of experience mostly: Graphic Design, Copy Writers, Journalism, Marketing comms, but having a degree is secondary to having experience. The most important thing is having the ability to clearly communicate goals and direct creatives towards results. There is a great book by Jamie Cabrera you can get here: www.jaimecabreracreative.com/shop/whats-the-big-idea-book-custom-signed

thank you for putting this video together - I'm designing a spec packaging and I really want to deliver an immerse branded storytelling experience. After seeing this video, I feel I may have over-stuffed the packaging with storytelling. Any video in particular you recommend about storytelling for other "premium" products? I did a breakdown of Bulgari packaging, but really it’s just about the product and creating a path that leads consumers to the product seamlessly in a branded environment. If there’s too much in the packaging the product begins to lose its value. There’s also a video on bird dogs, great packaging.

@@packagingunboxd thank you, will check it out. I was aiming to make the packaging almost like "a delight experience/game/story" that results in people gaining more delight from their purchase of the product. (inspired in part by the "time reimagined" packaging by Here Design)

Tossing in my two cents. Another reason for these brands not to anything other than a box is shelf space at home. Since the boxes are tall and narrow they don’t take up a lot of space at home, which is great because a lot of people buy multiple brands of cereal. Which means I can first 6 boxes of cereal on top of my fridge somewhat neatly

It’s what we as consumers have become used to and how we fit them into our lives. But it’s also because consumers aren’t asking for innovation in this space which means it’s the perfect place to innovate if you want to grow a brand with packaging and product.

I feel like they had their hands tied with brand identity. I also think that’s why they only made it in Coke Zero, so they could lean to that side of the brand and not infringe on Pepsi too much. Then they tied in that Coke Zero brand identity to the cookie packaging to not infringe on chips ahoy as you mentioned.

I disagree about the black packaging. I think it needs to stand out from the traditional blue oreo colors, without using Coke red, as that would take it too far from Oreo. That said, at quick glance...SEVERAL TIMES...in the grocery store, all i saw was a wristwatch on the label. And i was wondering if they had a promotion with a branded watch or something. I can now see that it's a bottle, but it still looks a lot more like a watch.
