I don’t think it is necessary for children to read books about LGBTQ.Parents just need to tell their children to respect people for who they are. I have never read books about that topic, but I never think homosexuality is a disease.

For those who don’t know, ‘are you a friend of Dorothy?’ was a phrase gay people would use many years ago to recognise each other. ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and its star Judy Garland are major parts of queer culture, and I love the recognition of that here.
