Seriously tho. I've got the R9 as well. In lg. Upgraded hope discs, stopping power for me at 5'11" 215 is soo much better! cut 1/4 in off ea side of the bars, this bike really rocks. Super playful competent and a real freaking Trek

The instinct is a great cornering bike with longish chainstays. Rocky's attention to detail and frame quality are some of the best in the Industry. Nice review and riding. I have a 2023 Instinct C30 and it is a great all-arounder and rides dead silent.

How does it compare to your ripmo v2?
@dustybettymtb
@dustybettymtb 8 күн бұрын
The instinct has more pop and play. I would say the ripmo v2 liked to stay glued to the ground more compared to this one. So if you want to make a straight smooth dash down the hill as efficiently as possible, the ripmo is probably a better fit. If you like to jib and play around the Instinct might be better. Similar travel range though on both and they can hit all the same types of trails. You probably prefer the ripmo V2 if you like that climbing feel where the rear wheel just stays glued to the ground the whole time, even if it means losing a little bit of efficiency (And some people love that flavor.) I prefer the feel of the Instinct climbing. It's a strong pedaling platform that's very efficient and I can spring up off the rear wheel without losing so much energy.

Great video. 28lbs seems heavy for a Ti hardtail with such great wheels but that's OK. It's not about the weight, it's about the joy any bike brings to its owner. Bottom line is having fun on what ever bike you are riding. Yes. I have a Ti hardtail. It's a Turner Nitrous that comes in at 23.5lbs. And then yes, I also ride FS bikes. A Turner RFX at 28lbs and a Turner Flux at 26lbs. All are fun no matter what kind of trails I am riding.

Yeah, it all depends on how you build it up. I used a pretty light wheel set on it, but the rest of the parts I used were not really curated with lightweight in mind. It could definitely be done lighter though!

Honestly I don’t mind head tube angle. The pros were riding hard core with steep head tube angle and they were wining races. Let’s not get too hung up on geometry. Just ride! Also, I want to mention I had this conversation with a road rider and he had on his rod bike disk brakes. I asked what is the average speed and to my surprise his average speed was 10 mph. I average around 20-23 miles now retired and I am still riding rim brakes on my pinarello. The same applies to mountain biking. You don’t need the latest and greatest to ride to my opinion.
@dustybettymtb
@dustybettymtb 29 күн бұрын
It's true. I totally get where you're coming from .You don't always need the latest greatest newest geometry and tech to make bikes fun. But that doesn't mean people can't enjoy experimenting with different geometry and bikes that are designed with different strengths. I try not to attach morality to it when someone gets a new car even if the old one still worked, and I think we should give people a little space to try out new bikes too if they enjoy it. Happy trails!

It really depends on the carbon model. Just to give you an example, the DV9 V1 rode very stiff for me. It rattled me so hard, My molars hurt. DV9 completely different ride. It was the most buttery smooth Hardtail I've been on. So it depends on the carbon model you compare to. Hope that helps!

Rad to hear your take on the wheels - I’m getting some wheels built up with Berds and Onyx Vespers for my XC bike - everything you described is what I’m hoping I’ll experience too! On the tire front… I know I’m late to this party, but I’ve been blown away by Victoria Barzo. I threw them on my Enduro bike for a laugh, expecting a sketchy ride around Makara Peak here in Wellington New Zealand. Instead I set several PBs down a variety of trails and by the end had a ton of confidence in their traction. They’re not as tough as a Minion or Assegai, but they’re light and have grip for days. I’ve had great luck with them. I DO ride an insert in the back - but that doesn’t make a difference to side-wall damage so 🤷‍♂️ Maybe worth a shot? I’ve not yet made it to Sedona, so I don’t know your dirt - I’m used to clay/mud, rocks and roots.

It could be worth trying. Sometimes I feel like longer stems change the feel of the steering. Going with a different bike, might be a better solution, but if you have a Lurra, experimenting with stem length could be worth trying.

My 11 y/old son is 4'11 and bought him a 29er hardtail, he raced xc a month ago and struggled with the 24in tire bike, he easily beat his best race time today during 7 or so laps we did at the same place(just training) there was a technical section which he struggled on during his race (had to come off the bike 2 or 3 times) today he never had an issue at that section. I got a Liv Lurra Size L 177cm male. He got Marlin Team 1 size S( a bit big for him for now but no issues), mine is a better featured bike with a 150mm dropper but found it lumpy on the xc kids course. It is however nice on our green/blue trail. The head angle definitely more slacker than his Marlin 66 vs 67deg so Liv Lurra definitely around 65deg head angle, I found it very very easy to get used to coming from an old geo hardtail, I however have found the huge space between the downtube and front axle causes the front wheel to be all the way forward on the Thule top ride roof bike carrier, drove with it for 2 hours mounted on the roof and was ok.
