Filtering down the middle is a stupid British habit. Drivers should try leave some space at the left for cyclists to pass. Perhaps then you won't need emergency vehicles at all. All Dutch cyclists would hop on the pavement if they can't pass. Not that this cyclist was risking anything. Whoever uploaded this video should have his eyes, or better his head checked.

+drie wiel No, it is very effective IF drivers kept left. Do you not have fires in your country? Do you not have police vehicles? Do you not have ambulances? That's why everyone should keep left unless passing. Everything would work very well in the UK, IF everyone followed the rules. As vehicles stop on the left, the right, the middle, it forces cyclists to weave in and out to progress. Drivers don't like this... once they understand they are the cause of this behaviour, and remove their heads from their asses, the flow of traffic for all would improve.

Mark Hook Rules never worked in the UK. That's the problem. If an emergency needs to pass then you make space. You don't force cyclists into oncoming traffic or you will need lots more ambulances. And those ambulances will hit cyclists and then you will need even more ambulances. Cyclists overtaking cars is stupid. UK is the only country where this is allowed. If the left isn't their space, then what is?? In space? You guys think all cyclists are able to pedal at 25mph to overtake cars. Well surprise surprise. The majority can't. At least not the majority you would have if the rules made any sense. They don't. So a bunch of Captain Coconuts think they are the REAL cyclists. You're not. REAl cyclists are moms and kids and grandpas. And their only option is to keep to the left. By overtaking cars you make it more difficult for them. And that makes you a non-cyclist basically. But hey. If there is a traffic jam, a real one, and you 'filter' to the front as you call it, then I have no problem with that. No reason why cyclists should line up in a traffic jam just like cars. As long you don't start thinking you are an F1 car, or motorcycle, or rocket with turbo boost, or fighter jet pilot, and that it is perfectly normal for bicycles to pass on the driver side. It is an idiotic rule and it should be illegal soon as possible. It pisses off drivers and rightfully so.

Why should cyclist line up with all the slower moving vehicles? the cyclist average speed compared to a car is greater in majority of built up areas, its long past due drivers realise this and help cyclist rather than block them out of sheer bloody ignorance.
