I'm rather disappointed that the decision was made to move away from the official ring with so many awful choices. Our official ring tradition died before it had a chance to be a real tradition.

I wish UH was not so strict with licensing. I really want a James Avery UH Charm. Also I want to purchase my daughter's graduation ring from Art Carved to match mine and her father's ring. What vendors are we able to purchase the ring from? Is Balfour our only option?

Because Balfour is the official supplier of college class rings for the University of Houston. Secondly, the Interlocking UH is a registered ®️ and protected trademark. The university has the right to protect its intellectual property and that includes their logo, Shasta, ring design and patents. At the end of the day every college and university is a business and anything that can generate income must be protected. I've seen students wear knockoff belt buckles, T-shirts, ball caps and other items made by unlicensed manufacturers. Anyone who knowingly makes, distributes and sells these knockoffs is guilty of fraud.

I realize that you guys aren't the ones who send the diplomas, but I'd be more inclined to hang it nice and high if it wasn't bent up. The school doesn't put them in covers/protectors before sending them out. UH just carelessly puts them in an envelope that says 'Do not bend', as if the honor system offers the same amount of protection for important documents. I'd bet that UT, Rice, A&M, and Baylor give their graduates their diplomas in the typical cover. And hopefully, UH will do more for its commencement this semester than it did last semester. You couldn't even tell that commencement was happening last year without all of the people. There were no decorations or banners around campus or anything. That, along with the commencement being a pointless walk across the stage without receiving anything (even just an empty diploma cover or something), made the whole thing feel really hollow and anti-climactic.
