Hi! I'm a new subscriber. I noticed the title says Acrylic Guache. I am interested in knowing more about this particular paint, and what paper you are using. Also, are you using standard watercolor brushes or stiffer ones,, I love the way you draw with the paint!
@creatoralma

@@KarenLeanneCreates2024 Hi Karen Leanne, thanks for your message and thank you for the kind words and for subscribing! I use acrylic gouache by Holbein. The paper is 300gr. (140lb.) hot pressed watercolor paper (smooth). I use acrylic brushes that are pretty beat up and my favorite is a stiff round brush for the outlines-it’s stiff because it’s old and the bristles create an uneven line I like. For the background I like flat brushes 1 inch wide or bigger. I paint a lot in a sketchbook (mixed-media or watercolor-I always prefer smooth over textured). I’m happy to answer any more questions. I do have a room portrait class I teach online on Skillshare in case you are interested. The link to my classes is in the description of the video you watched. Thank you again! 💕

@creatoralma Thanks so much for your detailed response! I am interested purchasing the acrylic guache, But only just recently learned about it when searching acrylic paints. I have watercolor paints and Inktense products, as well as Fabriano Extra White Hot Pressed paper. Perhaps my next big purchase is going to be the acrylic guache! I was looking at a large starter set of 22gm tubes by Turner.

I hear so many different elements of this video. I've known about Hero's Journey for aaages but I'm now exploring that other half of me, just as you've said, the heroine. And then following it with some Brene Brown! Absolutely love it ❤ The idea of creating rooms of our selves.... This. I gotta do this. This speaks to me so loudly, especially since there are so many psychological and spiritual representations of the "home" in that aspect. Thank you for inspiring me!

Hi Aroset, thank you for watching the video and for your kind comment. Yes, I feel like I’m just scratching the surface of the Heroine and so want to unearth her. ☺️ I can’t seem to get enough of painting rooms! @creatoralma unearthing her! Perfect analogy. That's got to be so exciting, and I feel you on a very deep level. For me the room concept goes back to when I was a kid and my dad, who was into psychology and spirituality much like yourself, told me about room representation in dreams. The different stories of a house, how we all sort of have our own inner homes we unconsciously return to that reflect our selves as we truly are. This has really stuck with me because I was homeless about 5 years ago, and ever since then I only dream of hotel rooms. Always moving, always having to leave, never being able to make the room *mine*. That life is, thankfully, done. But I think representing it through my art, the transition of my inner home to just hotel rooms, I feel like that could be super healing for me to acknowledge. I'd love to hear more about your journey too, trying to get through your vids! 🙏
@creatoralma
@creatoralma Ай бұрын
@ Hi again, thank you for sharing part of your story. You are very courageous and I’m sorry you had to go through homelessness-that must have been extremely difficult 😔. I agree that painting the transitions would honor the part of you trying to get your attention in dreams. ☺️ I really believe we are always communicated with. I have a persistent ear infection right now and I know there’s something I need to hear that I’m missing. Rooms and home are a safe place for me. I moved a lot as a child and grew up in a house where I was deeply afraid and stressed. Right now my priority is calming my nervous system down (vagus nerve toning/rest and digest)-a “feminine” energy calling. Rooms are a way to also visualize and reinforce what my deeper desires are. I’m doing my best to be the best mother I can be for myself and painting rooms are a way to bring that deep comfort and nurturing I seek. I’m grateful you shared your insights-these are your gold. Hold yourself in your heart as you proceed. 🩷

This is a great talk ! Super interesting. I noticed the same body sensation when painting with acrylic. I often came out of my painting sessions super angry and sometimes I even cried with frustration. whereas when I painted with gouache I felt concentrated, calm... I believed that to be a real artist was to paint large canvases with acrylics. I came to understand that it was more important to pay attention to how I felt, rather than what I thought I should do. interesting to understand this part of feminine masculine. THANKS ❤

Thank you for this video and your words. I'm a beginner and I want to create art, especially naive and illustration because I work with people with trauma and I'm hyper aware of how much injustice and suffering there is in the world. I want to make beautiful things that comfort your soul like a bowl of soup in the winter and ignite love like a spark in the dark. However I'm finding it hard to learn by myself and all the courses I've found in my area are at times I'm either at work or with my children. When I do create something I'm terrified of getting it wrong because I have so little time. I'm approaching art like an adult. So thank you for the reminder to let my inner child come out and love her with all her imperfections. I will definitely come back to this video when I struggle with too much "adulting"!

A great idea to take photos in black and white to assess the contrast in values in a painting. Oh, my goodness! This resonated with me so hard...the gorgeous art work, the expression of emotion in the painting, the narrative, the back story, the tendency towards emotional masochism...all of it! Thank you for sharing this and helping me move through my story through my art journey, too. Most inspirational, and comforting to know that we are not alone, and that we can rewrite the narratives any time we choose. Somehow, rendering them in paint and pencil and transforming uncomfortable feelings into beautiful art works feels really authentic and honest: where the process of creating gives us time and head space to work things through, asking questions, gently challenging ourselves to shift unhelpful perspectives and becomes quite a meditative / transcendental experience. Pure gold! Great art, great philosophy, thoughtful and helpful - I have now subscribed and look forward to exploring more of your work and ideas. ♥
