Is there no purging of the cooling system for air? I have not done one of these in 30 years.
@hoodratsgarage772 күн бұрын
Yes, there definitely is. I perform a purge using a tool called an "Air Lift," which is a venturi style vacuum that uses compressed air to pull vacuum on the system. You then suck new coolant in and it fills the entire system, including the heater core. Another option is to use a Funnel and run the car with the coolant tank tap off and fill it as it warms up.

well done However the bearing is so blocked that you will have to pull on one side with screw + nut and hit very hard on the other side as you did. On KZbin there are dozens of videos regarding the problematic replacement of the Subaru rear bearing blocked strongly by rust. Subaru, a Japanese manufacturer that should traditionally correct errors, should at least grease the area with anti-seize grease. (unless they do it on purpose to let everything block to force their customers to the Subaru garage)

Good video. I think that green stick inside the pan is the fill indicator. You remove the green stick prior to filling the pan and when the fluid start dribbling out the hole occupied by the green stick, you stop filling - I could be wrong - but I cant see what else it would be for. But your way work as well.

One thing I do differently is: I like to loosen the four 10mm bolts on the water pump pulley when the serpentine belt is still installed. But your impact gun does the job nicely. Changing the thermostat and hoses is sound advice while you have easy access to everything. Good video Nick!

@chrisparti I am by no means and engineer and was very worried about how this system would perform. I followed several other vw bug subaru swap builds and hoped it would work on a Ghia application. I have a 2006 xterra offroad with 207k. Its not smoking or anything but i am having issuse with oil pressure. It started out with the oil gauge dropping to nothing at idle and the engine would stall (pain in the butt stopping at red lights) looked online and people said oil pressure sensor switch was bad so i changed it and now the oil gauge drops between the L and the bracket and the oil light comes on (oil is topped off). It rumbles and vibrates at idle but doesnt stall I know its not a misfire because i changed the coils and put new spark plugs in it recently. Shes a tired motor and i wanted to ask instead of changing parts on a tired motor (oil pump timing set) should i replace the motor with another with less miles? Did you have any problems putting a 2015 motor into a 2005? Does the trans housing meet up with the block the same? Is there differences in fitment between the years? Do i need different exhaust manifolds? I do apologize with the questions but i am getting really frustrated with the problems and been tracking down and fixing things and its not doing the trick. Buying a new suv is out of my price range but i can save for a newer less mileage engine and putting brand new parts on a tired engine kind of sucks because i dont know what else might wear out then i got to take it apart all over again (i do my own work on a gravel driveway😅) ive rebuilt older engines last one i did was an 351w out of an 1987 f150. Is it better to rebuild a nissan vq40de or just change it for a newer used engine?
@hoodratsgarage773 ай бұрын
The vq40 engines are horrible to work on. If you have a really worn-out one, a swap for a newer one is a good bet. The 2015 we installed was a direct replacement as long as you keep all of your bolt ons to the long block from your original engine. There is an extra sensor on the newer engines that can be left in place and not connected. Good luck with your project! Thanks for watching!
