If I install ventilation in sofits, will it allow some air to flow up through the attic? The reason I say Some Air is because several yaars ago, my husband installed a home camera system & he could barely get the cable through a tiny crack to be able to mount cameras under the soffit. This house was built in 1962 and there just doesnt seem to be any cracks in that area but I guess a small amount of air flow is better than nothing. I poked my head in there to see how hot and the attic crawl space feels like 200 degrees today!! 😳🥵 We need VENTILATION VENTS ASAP. Is an Eave and a soffit the same thing? LOL
@wwhomeshow
@wwhomeshow 17 күн бұрын
Hey there! Yes, eve and soffit would be the same thing. Installing these vents might help a little but you may need to install a lot of them. But you you'll also need to make sure you have adequate venting at your ridge. It might be worth talking to a roofing company about installing roof deck venting. I did this on my 1970's home because I just couldn't get enough venting with traditional vents. www.lomanco.com/vents/specialty-vents/deckair-vent/

You can either run the wiring under the deck or through the top rail. Each post light connects to the previous one so you start at one end and connect post to post.

When you say "bees" are you referring to hornets or wasps? Or Honey Bees? I have been getting Mason Bees nesting all over my house the past few years. They are amazing pollinators so I spoke to an expert about responsibly relocating them. I ended up installing Mason Bee houses and it really helped. If you're dealing with Honey Bees, you should call a local beekeeper to get some advice. Wasps and Hornets are a different story! You may have to speak to an extermination company to keep them out.

Unfortunately you can't change the glass in a Flush Glazed door. If this is something you're worried about you should go with a door that uses a lite kit. They cut a hole in a solid door and sandwich glass inside between two frames. They can easily be replaced.

I have a Therma-Tru Door but I need to trim an inch off the door. If I take the weather strip off and cut 1 inch off the bottom, do I need to do anything special with this style of door? For example, router the core 3/16 inch so you can fold over (seen this on a steel door).

Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner! There should be solid blocking in that door an inch from the bottom so you should be okay. The only thing I would do is paint the bottom of the door with exterior grade paint before you reinstall the weather stripping.

Why is the door hinge on the outside? Also what if water gets in between the building wrap (behind the siding) and the flashing behind the door brick molding?
@wwhomeshow
@wwhomeshow 6 ай бұрын
The hinges are on the outside because this is an "Outswing Door". We used special hinges called NRP (Non-Removeable Pin) for security. Also, If everything is flashed correctly water should NOT get behind the butyl tape we used. However, if it does then we would know it right away because it would drip inside the house. Proper flashing should always be layered and cascaded like shingles on a roof. Z-metal first, then building wrap over top of that with Butyl tape over that.

Hello! We ordered this door from a local door shop here in Oregon called Orepac. Although, most custom door shops should be able to make a cut down door. Just be prepared to pay more than a standard sized door... You have to pay for the full sized door slab and the labor to have it customized. So smaller door doesn't equal smaller price 😄

I have a fiberglass Therma-Tru door installed almost 20 years ago in a new home. South facing but partially covered by porch roof. Still gets a lot of sun. Refinished several times over the years. The door is delaminating. The fiberglass skin is separating from the substrate along the length of the stiles on both the lock side and the hinge side. This is a 3 ft. door with two sidelights oval window with 1/2 glass with brass caning. Expensive to replace. What is the warranty on the door? The only documentation we have is what comes in the refinishing kits. Possible to replace the door slab only? I tried to glue and clamp one corner to see if I could repair, but normal wood glue and Gorilla glue and neither of them will bond this. Thanks.

Hey Guys. Can you think of an "outside the box" solution to add a keyless smart lock (dead bolt) to a Therma-tru door with a multi point locking system (even if it is not very conventional)? I cannot stand the thought of carrying a key around with me! It doesn't need to replace the existing locking system. You mentioned security was important, do you think you should have opted for a door without the window then? If the glass were to break, wouldn't a total door replacement be necessary, too? Great video!
@wwhomeshow
@wwhomeshow 9 ай бұрын
Hey thank you! I need to think about a smart lock that could actuate the 3-point lock system. The problem is that it is tied to the door handle. You have to lift the handle up to activate it. I'll do some research. Security is important to us with that particular door. Although, I didn't think a small lite at the top of the door posed much of a security risk. Also, The flush glazed windows are super strong.
@AZLife007
@AZLife007 9 ай бұрын
@@wwhomeshow Thanks for the response. My Therma-tru door is the grip model which doesn't require lifting the handle to activate it. The only solution I could think of is possibly boring an additional hole for a keypad or fingerprint deadbolt hole ABOVE the top "lock" in the drive rail. Obviously the mechanics "end" at the top lock so I would imagine there is nothing above that to "break" the overall locking system (10 inches down from the top of the door). Yes, it would look real funky and probably not be extremely secure/effective, but would do the trick for those times when I don't want to carry a key and I can still get in. My door also has the 6 small lites at the top of door. Thoughts? Thanks.
@AZLife007
@AZLife007 9 ай бұрын
@@wwhomeshow I think I found a smart lock solution that will work for the 3-point lock system without the need to replace/modify any of the existing lock system. It's called a "SwitchBot Smart Lock". I have one on order and am so excited to try it. I just hope that the turning mechanism is strong enough to turn the deadbolt on the Therma-Tru door (which seems to take a bit more effort than a normal deadlock).

BUYERS BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY! My experience with my Classic Craft door and this company has been a nightmare. Therma-Tru Company will generate a lie to avoid honoring their warranty on their doors. At least thats what my own experience has been. The quality of my Classic Craft door is poor to say the least. I had to spend over an hour boring out parts of the door to get the lock to work properly. The frame of the door unit was not built square. Now everyone knows that you must have a square door frame in order to have properly functioning door. Well at least thats what i thought. According to Therma-Tru having a door frame thats unsquare is perfectly fine. In fact they accused me for the poor workmanship and said that Im reason for the door frame being out of square and therefore will not be honoring any warranty. I took photos of the frame the day of install with a square firmly in place showing just how bad it was out of square. But Im still to blame.This Is how Therma-Tru is going to treat their customers? Its sad... and upsetting to say the least. Unfortunately my problems dont end there. My glass in my door has been leaking water into the house for months now I was told to pay another $200 to get that fixed. Well i paid that and its still has not been replaced yet. So every times it rains we have get the rags ready to catch the water coming down the door.. Ugh.... I just hope I save others from the mistake I made when I decided to purchase a Therma-Tru door. Do your homework and find a company that will stand behind their product and honor their warranty. I found out the the hard way. Therma-Tru will not!

Hey @@vienna844, not all security hinges look the same. Some have a setscrew on the inside of the hinge that can only be accessed when it's open. Easiest way to make sure is to take a punch of some kind and a hammer and see if you can take them out! Don't hit it too hard, you don't want to break it. Nominal vs. Net dimensions. "Two by four is a colloquialism" In the US all dimensional lumber uses old nominal sizes for lumber. 100 years ago 2x4's were closer to 2" x 4" but their weren't very many regulations regarding lumber sizing. They passed wood sizing regulations in the 1920's making everything uniform. Also, it's easier to say "tooba-four" then "Inch in a half by three and a halfs" Wouldn't you agree!?😄
