Thank you Aloke for putting together this trip video. It was wonderful to watch. What made this particularly special is the fact that I along with three friends from college days travelled the exact same route on June 10; six day later. All the scenery and places seemed so familiar. On June 10 we travelled from Losar Khas to Manali via Atal tunnel. Earlier we had stayed in Sangla and then Tabo. Wonderful places to visit. Would love to do it all over again. To be cautious though as you mention in the video "Traveling on these roads is not for the faint hearted". Thanks again.

Love it Aloke! Very nice to see stabilized shots of the mountains. Brings back a lot of memories: afternoon/evening/night jeep ride Chhatru to Kaza Sep 2010. We had a bit of dark cold dinner in Losar and wound up at the very nice Sakya Abode in Kaza quite late in the evening. What a nice hotel. We took over the courtyard to dry our soaking wet camping gear. Harish Kapadia and his crew were staying there. Then Sep 2014 bicycle clockwise Lahaul-Spiti-Kinnaur. The Kunzum La road was in bad shape but obviously not as much snow or water. Stayed at legendary dhaba in Bataal. I am happy to see that nature still has the upper hand and that the road is still pretty bad!

I'm glad you liked it and it brought back great memories for you! Both the dhabas at Batal and Chhatru were very basic affairs during my first jaunt on this road in 1985..... and yes, you are right, nature still plays havoc with this road every year!

Great! Wow I blew through Chango on bike in 2014 and did not see how extensive the village was. I knew I had Malling Slide climb in front of me to get to Nako. Wow 3 climbing trips all look amazing.
@AlokeSurinАй бұрын
Speaking of the infamous Maling Slide, during the 1998 expedition we had a strange problem. Two members of our 4 man team had left the Chango glacier much before us after climbing Leo Partial as they wanted to explore some climbing possibilities near Kalpa. The plan was that the two remaining (Ravi Wadaskar and I) would catch up with them after 10 days with a rendezvous set for Kalpa. However when Ravi and I reached Chango village the road was blocked by the Maling slide which had suddenly sprung into action! There was no hope or possibility of the road to Kalpa and Shimla opening in a hurry. So the two of us took the long journey via Spiti and Lahul and Manali. It was a desperate race against time but miraculously we reunited on the train that we had booked our return to Mumbai.... though we boarded the train at different stations!! And all this in the days before cellphone connectivity! We made long distance calls from Kaza from one of those public STD/ISD booths to our respective families in Mumbai who somehow managed to contact Arun and Anil (the other two) and informed them of our plans!

How much did this trailer cost?
@AlokeSurin3 ай бұрын
With all the bells and whistles that I opted for, the total came to around CAD 29,000 incl taxes. The base model starts out at about CAD 19,000 and then you can choose your options. These prices at the time I ordered the unit.

Great video. This is the first video I have seen that shows how everything is set up to work. Was a bit more complex on the Battery then I thought it would be. I’m hoping for a teardrop so thank you for the post. The soft music was a nice touch and not so loud it interrupted the video.

How do you deal with heat since it does not have an AC? do you run internal fans?
@AlokeSurin5 ай бұрын
There is a two way exhaust fan which helps to keep things cool and bearable in the cabin.... however, I've not had to camp in scorching temperatures here in British Columbia so cannot comment on the need for an AC.

if you don't want to carry a tripod, get a monopod. this is a silly test.
@AlokeSurin7 ай бұрын
It's not that I don't want to carry a tripod or a monopod....I was just curious! FYI I have experimented shooting video with a monopod and a much heavier set up (the 150-600 mm Tamron G2 mounted on the Z6II as well as the Nikon D750) Even with a monopod, tracking and panning a subject is not the easiest task. It is quite obvious that a dedicated video tripod with a fluid ball head is the ideal set up.
@pepenone7 ай бұрын
@@AlokeSurin There´s no other way than that, carry a stable and reliable tripod for clean sharp images with a focal longer than 300mm. There is no Vibrate Reduction that worked well with complex light conditions and sujects moving fast in my opinion

Your still fotos are great and the Quality of the video is also very impressive. It’s hard not to make shaky video handheld, so a tripod would probably help you out. / Greetings from Per Christensen, Denmark

Aloke,as you have demonstrated,this set up of yours is ok for stills but the same set up for fast moving handheld video means that the IBIS is struggling especially whilst panning,due to the heavy front end.Guess you need to consider a tripod with a gimbal head,that means more equipment to lug but worthwhile for video especially from behind a hide.Did you consider the Z8 ?
