In 1934 I was born in St. Lukes maternity ward,Bradford and brought home to my parents new house part of the six block at the far end of Green Lane off to the right of St. Mary;s.A month or so later I was christened in St. Mary's on August 12th. Dad was responsible for the setting out and building of all the houses ,which still stand on the north side of Green Lane, along Clare Crescent and up the south side of Clare Rd.The church is on an elevation that has a commanding view to the south, the west and north. The West Riding town of Huddersfield is beyond the ridge to the south, Halifax is over the western skyline. To the north lies Queensbury on the ridge, the highest point in the West Riding of Yorkshire. My Dad, on weekends,to get extra money, used to chisel the lettering on gravestones in the banker shed at the far corner of the graveyard of the church. In my teens I used to cy cle up the steep hill of Green Lane when working in Halifax. So my associations with all that area many and varied and I have vivid memories stil of it.

Really enjoyed this look around the old middle school. I've just subscribed as I see you have done lots of Wyke films. If you get the chance please check out my chnnel as I have done a few Wyke walk videos.

Amazing. I haven't seen these views for 60 years, when I started at what was Wyke Junior School! The headteacher, in those days, was Mr Creasey. I remember spending most breaks racing toy cars down the 'slope,' which was the entrance that we used to the side of the main building.Outside toilets weren't much fun during the winter! I have so many wonderful memories of this place. Many thanks for making this great video! 👍

Aye, I've walked a load of it, some's cut off by brambles, and the first bridge is blocked off by fencing, but the rest you can mostly walk

certainly halifax looks great, the piece hall is a masterpiece any city would envy, the only negative commentary would be the retail sheds encircling the central core like cancerous tumors and the ring road itself, a wall which ought to be covered up or simply made disappear to reconnect the central and inner areas

Piece* Hall. Back when weaving was a cottage industry, people would come into town to sell their pieces of cloth.

Films like this are really good for posterity. The people of the future will be able to look back and see how the town has changed and we have so many beautiful buildings I hope they remain.
