Love it Tommy but my favourite recording was by Buddy Morrow. England, December 2024.

I filled in for his regular pianist for a couple of nights. I liked Buddy Morrow; he was really grateful for my pitching in. The arrangements used by TD weren't all that easy!

I’ve never heard this chart before. Buddy could play so perfectly on these ballads. Grover Mitchell played an Allyn Ferguson arrangement on Count Plays Duke that always gets to me too. Such a great melody.

Thanks for posting these! I worked with the TDO under Terry Myers. Great library and band. Also love the road pics, schedules (“Short Terms”) which shows just how busy big bands were; and of course the beloved Night Train!

Thanks so much for sharing this entire show. The photographs are fantastic, and the itineraries, too. Getting to hear Buddy play was ALWAYS a thrill. I'm in my mid 30s but still got to work with him (and Larry O'Brien on the GMO). Buddy is a hero. But this is special - hearing him do some of the "Golden Trombone" charts live. Thanks for sharing, Ray. Yours, Dan Gabel (trombone).

I’ve never heard this arrangement. Buddy was amazing. One of my other favs is Grover Mitchell w/ the Basie Orchestra playing this. Grover was not well and it is very mournful and soulful.

Thanks for posting this, I've heard musicians talk about Buddy and this band for years, but never heard it. Nice pictures, too. I lived in ATL during the 80's, and somehow missed 'em. Nice to hear it now, though!

I still think Buddy may have been a better Trombonist than Dorsey. He certainly swung harder on this.

Enjoyed hearing this and seeing the old school itineraries ( not Google calendar which is annoying) Buddy Morrow was the Greatest

Buddy at the peak of his powers. One of three great bands on the road at this time. Basie (which was then mostly still original members!) this Dorsey Band, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra under Larry O’Brien.
