If you think this a story is about women or even mary ann herself, you completely missed the point of the story. Its also not some story about a girl overcoming gender norms/subverting expectations. It is a WAR story taking place in a WAR. She isnt becoming empowered, shes being dehumanized by the WAR. The loss of her humanity and femininity isnt meant to be a statement on gender relations, its meant to be an allegory about the boys loss of innocence and humanity, and nothing else. Its why the soldiers listening to the story hang on every word. Because they want to know what will become of her (of themselves.) Its why they all relate to her, because they are simulataneously repulsed and enthralled by the war, but if they fly to close to the sun to be a part of it, they will never come back from it (like mary ann) and even with the best of luck, they all have a part of them that either died/stayed behind in Vietnam. I would bet that the only reason tim o brien made this character a woman to begin with was to juxtapose the grizzled men with a privileged stateside girl in order to truly show to the men (and the readers) just how deeply and initimately the war effected them and their entire outlook on life, relationships, etc. This has to be one of the worst analysis ive ever seen of any piece of literature in my entire life.

A great channel that stayed at a rusty shelf, I was looking for a video like this to make my own about dehumanization of the enemy at video games ( and other half of the video is about fantazising war )

I think it's fitting Joker specifies "the marines do not want robots", yet "the marines want killing machines without fear" They _do_ want robots, just under a phrase mired in idealized hyper-masculinity It's also not just that the individual is de-emphasized, it's that they tie their own life and personhood to the marines. The sergeant says something along the lines of "you will die, but the marines will live forever, and that means you will live forever"

My understanding is the multi-coloured rivers and flowered zee refers to a brand of coloured toilet paper that was sold in Canada, because, hey, what every bathroom needs is a roll of seafoam wipe. The paper was found to be toxic to both humans and watersheds. It was eventually pulled off the market.

This is so good. Thank you for explaining it out 🫶 I was also wondering if there was anyway that one would know how to write a 'summary and opinion' effectively? Lol it's sometimes easy for me to find the topics or flow of writing where it makes sense. I'm not sure it's entirely necessary for it to be mentioning things I'll include in the paper, per my individual instructions from the professor, but sometimes I can't seem to find anything, even though I've read the article, and find it interesting 🤷 which might be contradicting, as as if I read it all, it would be easy to cite, but it sometimes has a small bit of info I want to include that differs from similar journals I'm referencing and citing, but I don't want to write the samething for each different summary, even though it would fit as a standalone... Idk. So I end up skipping the article entirely and look for a different one. Hasn't happened that frequent, but I e done at least 3 so far, in the last "Annotated Bibliographies" I've had to write for an upcoming paper. We were told to at least include 3, but to obviously include all that would be mentioned in the paper... Which kinda sucks, cause I'd rather just include the citation without having to write a summary about it. Lol

The cliff which I saw was making me cry 😭😭 but i also support nora's actions of helping her husband when he was so ill and i also feel that people like Nils Krogstad , Torvald Helmet behaved so cruelly and selfishly. They are inhuman to Nora and I felt so bad when Christine too betrayed Nora by saying Nils Krogstad to let the letter be in the post box so that Torvald knows that her true character . But none of them appreciated her nor praised her for her generosity and bravery that she lent huge amount of kronor to save her husband's life when he was very much ill . Nora is very much kind hearted and generous to everyone and she never harmed or wronged anyone . I feel that no one was honest to her except Dr Rank . He also never harmed anyone . He was very kind to everyone especially to Nora . I sympathise with both Nora and Dr. Rank . For me Nora is a tragic heroine because she led a very tragic life and nobody except Dr . Rank and her children loved her truly . And for me Dr . Rank is also a tragic hero because he had to suffer from spinal tuberculosis which he has inherited from his father . It was not his fault but due to his father's immoral actions he had to suffer . But Dr . Rank like Nora was very generous to everyone and he also never harmed or wronged anyone . When Nora left her husband I felt that she felt very insulted and sad at her husband's behaviour . All this would have not happened if her husband and her father respected her and treated her as a human .

You missed the point completely, it is about the brutalities and realities of war. More so the moralities. Don’t be so lost in your own issues that you miss the real ones. Also, if you really think what they were doing in the beginning was bragging, you really don’t understand the film. They were kids thrown into a hell hole.

Unless you have panic distress syndrome social anxiety disorder (Or the other mental health issues shown in this movie) or knows someone close to you that has it you have no clue of what you are talking about and thier for you have no right to talk about it. I personally suffer from some of the things that are shown in this movie and I can tell you from my experience of having these same to similar issues what I feel is going on this this proper speaking dingbat deffently has no clue about what is going on plus what is more important is that she with her words tells me she has never had to deal with this herself and as someone who has this kind of problems she pissed me off with in 2 minutes.

To put it mildly, this story is a total fabrication. In essence, it's total bullshit. This is a story that's only purpose is to promote equality on the battlefield. If that is what women really want, then go for it. I served in the exact area described in the book. It sucked. But if that is what you really need to feel equal, then have at it.

I disagree with the idea that Wordsworth is lecturing the reader and offering a solution, as tho this is a political speech or lifestyle ad. It's a poem, which for W in particular, is meant to be an expression of his personal feelings. He stands by the ocean on a perfectly calm, moonlit night, alone, free, and he still feels alienated. "Wherever you go, you bring yourself with you." He invokes greek mythology, but, as a modern man, he has no pat answers to feeling utterly folorn, shut out from the universe.

Thank you. You're the first person I've encountered that recognises that it's an incantation. If WW was of an older time, before Christianity, he would summon the Sea Gods and have the place flooded.
