I loved Ron Atkinson in the day, and I took his side in this argument at the time of the controversy. However after after watching this, I can see why people "cancelled him" he does in the documentary to appear to ignorant, especially after watching documentary backs the ignorance this up. However time has passed since the scandal and I believe he has been forgiven and rebuilt himself which is good to see. I do not think Ron was a racist but did make a racist comment and is a product of his time. I still love the guy. I met him when I was 15 years old in Jamaica, lets not forget he DID introduce many starts to the English league all black, Regis, Batson, Cunningham, Remi Moses. Moses along with Paul McGrath were the two prominent players for Manchester United.

I had a mate (big Dean) He was huge. Such a great guy too. A bouncer called him the N word on a night out and we all immediately beat the shit out of the bouncer. I found it more offensive than I knew… He was just Big Dean to us. The bouncer wasn’t a pretty sight after his disrespectful comment to our mate. 4 out of 8 of us were boxers though. Sparring with Dean was not a pleasant experience…

These videos mocking people in the early 60s with their outdated attitudes towards immigrants are shokin. They never knew any better and they are poor ! Put immigrants near rich people in their community, watch the oproar, watch the racism

Why do we all have to respect black culture and tradition but we dont accept south america culture when they say negro. It seems context is only brought into the debate when it suits blacks

The question is. How did Tyldsley get away with it. He sat there and didnt utter word, not even a "calm down Ron". If the tape didn't come out he would be waxing lyricals about Big Ron being a saint.

Ron is old school and I'm old enough to know that, that generation, language that was used casually then, would be offensive today. I'm not saying it was right but that's how it was. Even an episode of only fools talked about going down the p@ki shop. Those folks were not racist although their language could be deemed to be so. All races were involved in this. What p me off is black folk get really offensive when others use it but then they shouldn't use it themselves. It's not the language I use myself though. If it's deemed unacceptable then it should be by all races not just some. That in itself is racist.

The constant use of the n word renders the programme close to being a parody on what is a serious subject Ron is playing dodge to an extent on what he said rather than owning it. You cant un say the n word. It paints him in a terrible life. I think Ron was an excellent manager winning trophies with three different clubs. He has however blotted his copybook badly with his outburst.
