Its pretty obvious 2jzz410 didn't know who Riche Flores was. Just let me tell you if you didn't know....... I'll make it simple, if your really a musician then you should know who Eddie Palmieri is. Every one of his musicians over the last half century are top notch and regarded as the best of the best! Riche happens to be one of those. This was just a demonstration of speed of hands. RIche has played all over the world and is one of the most humble people you could ever meet.

@adachir87 thanks for watching. consider that you're hearing a cheap video camera recording in a big room - not quite the same as hearing it live. secondly, i just disagree. why would you want to hear mallets slapping the keys on a chorale? i wanted it to sound as much like human voices as possible.

Some pretty harsh comments here, but mostly good, and rightfully so. Richie is a GREAT conguero! His speed is awesome, and he DOES have musicality. It's not just his speed, but how easy he makes it look. And for him, I guess it is! Great stuff, man!

i find richies solos to be unique- they take congas playing into places no one else goes- to advance u must take risks - he never plays it safe - dont get me wrong he can swing a band with a solid back beat as good as anybody (like alot of other players) but when he solos its electric- there is something exciting seeing someone play to the edge of there ability- especially when your one of the best in the world- thats whats makes him great- and that what makes him different-

Antonio LOL, You really must have no life or be a frustrated musician to worry about what I think. It's my opinion. Oh wait. I'm sorry I must have forgotten the internet is serious business. And, your opinion and words while you sit behind your little screen and attack me make me laugh. Typical internet tough guy. LMAO! But that's cool. Richie is fast as hell but speed is not the be all end all of being a percussionist or musician for that matter. Cool for the first 20 seconds then just boring.

YAWN! there might not be "right or wrong" but when there is no flow, it should raise some critique. why not use technique to ENHANCE a groove and not ABANDON it by falling into a spiralling, horrible display of non-musical rudiments... I'm all for developing technique but this is ridiculous. AND this is not the worst I've seen hiim play. I've seen Richie play enough times to say it has nothing but rudiments behind it. It's simply boring and tasteless.

Stop the inderect comments towards Richi Flores and just enjoy his playing...you quickly compare him to Giovanni Hidalgo and say Richie is Horrible but I dont see any videos of you guys playing any instruments on here with your names on it. Meanwhile, Richi and Giovanni will get together for a live jam and enjoy the heck out of it, while you guys here keep with the dumb remarks....Enjoy it for what it is. There is no "right or wrong" way of playing congas...Every Style is different !

Hes's fast but not very tasteful in his playing. He's saying nothing to me when he plays.

I think Richie is real good, the thing is we see him and we think wow he is fast just like Giovanni. But he is no Giovanni but his techniques with his fast hands qualify him as one of the best.

if there was an Olympics of conga playing... The need for speed is a human nature so there's no fault here especially since there's musicality in it. Some people totally sacrifice musical ideas for technique and that's a danger. Keep it musical folks! (Or you'd better have really dazzling technique to keep us entertained for a while.)

Yes, i agree...Richie got his own thing and it works for him. I like his sound even if it might be overbearing for some musicians. I also do notice motivic development and polyrythmic vocabulary in his solos. And no, I do not think it is circus act.

usually when i hear people putting guys down about speed is cause they have non!!! I think Richie has his style.. He just happens to express himself in a fast way... If you guys can not except that than keep your comments to yourself. Anybody who puts down Richie has to be Stupid or Jealous, Mario Monaco NYC
