Last year, taken in by the buzz around him on internet and his own very savvy self promotion, I sent 3 pens to Dlip Basak. A Parker VS 1947, Parker 51, Parker 21. They all had minor defects - ink leakage in the first, unbalanced nib tines in the others. He charged Rs3800/- for the repairs. When I received the pens in Lucknow where I live, I found that the defects were still there but some more had cropped up. The VS leaks far more & is unusable, 51 gets dry the next day, even with full ink-tube, 21 leaks badly. So I sent back the pens & my cousin in Kolkatta again contacted him. This time Mr Dilip Basak asked for Rs5000/- & Rs500/- more for the 51 & 21!!! VS, being rare, I did'nt send back. So, I refused further repairs and decided not to avail of his services anymore. His skill is not pen-making; it is savvy self-promotion. Trust him at your peril. The man is a smart crook.

At 06:29 you say that you get used to the pen instead of forcing the pen getting used to you. Does that mean you write with any fountain pen in stock condition i.e. not modifying it's nib tip and tines to change smoothness or ink flow etc? And if a pen doesn't write according to your preferences do you still use it? Because in the long term the experience won't be good according to me. Also your handwriting will be affected if you are adjusting to every new pen.
@inkedhappiness9 күн бұрын
you raise very valid points. but i have seen that over time and long bouts of writing, it is possible to get used to the quirks of a pen. and no. i normally dont fiddle with the factory settings.
@briandsouza78549 күн бұрын
@inkedhappiness Understood. In that case if a pen is faulty (scratchy nib which tears paper or ink flow that skips), you get a replacement/sent it back to the retailer/manufacturer? Also do you always try a fountain pen before buying especially when it's expensive? And last one, if you finally found your one pen in which everything is perfect. You then buy 2-3 more but it's not the same as your original purchase then what do you do?
@inkedhappiness9 күн бұрын
@@briandsouza7854 yes. i normally send back pens that are faulty. but that is only in extreme situations. i do prefer testing the pen before buying - caveat emptor, you know :) like i said, no two pens are the same and just because you like one, there is no guarantee that its siblings will act the same :)

Sir I absolutely agree with your point. No two pens are identical. Even the same model of same company behaves differently. My personal experience. I have 3 Jinhao 86 fountain pens. All 3 are fine nibs. All three gave me different experience of writing. Good video. Keep it up sir.

Chawm Uncle please make vdo on your watches। I'm a teen boy actually। But I love watching your vedios as your vedios are exception in pen reviewing community। Instead of talking about basic info you're always been talking about writing experience, journey of a company etc। Thats make the difference। Please please make more vedio on fountain pens। click, kanwrite, sulekha, asa, beena etc. Besides I'm waiting for your watch collection। HMT himalaya is very recommendable watch And I recommend it you to wear.

I just saw your reply to Anmol ji's comment about you recovering from a recent surgery. Please get well very soon, sir. 🙏🏼😁 I do pray Sailor's financial troubles (as @thewetpen said) will be over very soon. I love Japanese fountain pens, especially the Pilot Kakuno which my mother gifted me. Their regular Namiki inks are also my favourite, due to their reliable flow and the blue-black ink's water resistance. I'd really like to know (if possible) any similarly-performing swadeshi inks that are decently wet and at least water resistant. I haven't tried Sailor's offerings yet, but I hope to do so very soon. With that in mind, though, I personally think the Tuzu's price is still quite expensive for being an entry-level product, even if it's from what is considered to be one of the best fountain pen brands in the world. Also, as people in other fountain pen forums often comment, Japanese fountain pen brands need to branch out a bit more overseas. I'm quite sure many people will certainly fall in love with their products.

It would be fascinating, if onlinemantra could keep Sulekha inks in stock. They have primarily foreign inks and adding the Sulekha inks in their website would actually make their website a complete destination for buying pens and inks. I've contacted Sulekha multiple times, their payment system doesn't support my digital wallets and am therefore unable to pay. Wanted to get hold of some of their inks and if Onlinemantra who support it had them in stock, it would be fascinating for me :) Good day Sir.

An excellent video! I'm really enjoying your new camera and lighting, as much as I loved looking around at all of the fun stuff in your room in the older setup :-) The Tuzu is an attractive pen, but I'm not sure that it will be the answer to Sailor's financial troubles. To me, it seems too expensive for brand-new beginner's pen... the Tuzu sells for about $50 in the US... whereas we can buy the 14k Gold nib Sailor 1911 Profit for about $60. The Tuzu will have trouble competing with the less expensive Lamy Safari and Al-Star, but also pens like the Pilot Preppy and Kakuno for true beginners, and it's also priced above pens like the TWSBI Eco and Narwhal Original, and of course, all of the other excellent Chinese pens... even the ones made of titanium. I'm just not sure that an adjustable grip is going to be a selling point to people who would just as happily use a round grip and not need adjustment.

Nice video. My honest opinion for this Tuzu pen is “full marks for innovation but not so impressive material and finish.” Well no hard feelings but this was my opinion and one may differ. I prefer lamy safari over this tuzu. Keep it up sir. I really enjoy your content.

It's a nice video indeed as usual; but as a critical viewer and as a well wisher I would suggest that your camera person should focus on the object itself rather than framing the composition.
