Most of the events of a gun shoot happen faster than you can perceive it. In fact the first action of a gun captain is to check the "salvo latch" which shows If the gun actually fired. Having been a GQ (battle stations) Office of the Deck (OOD) in the open bridge all the windows roll down like a car window to avoid shattering the glass. The first perception is the blast to your face followed by the shock wave. Then the intense heat wave from all the IR coming out of the fireball. The amidships Tomahawk launchers were checked for acceleration and they were found to have six "G"s of acceleration from a 9 gun broadside. So there is definitely movement of the ship from gun recoil. When firing all 9 guns the superstructure was subjected to 3 psi of overpressure when firing on the beam. When firing "over your shoulder" (guns pointed aft of the beam) the overpressure could exceed 9 psi which could do significant self damage. I've personally seen water tight doors ripped in half. I wrote a long post 2 years ago on the NJ museum channel.

Love this! Trying to figure out where exactly in Sayreville this is. Grew up in President Park, spent my childhood days hanging out in the clay pits circa late 1960s and on. Ice skating, bonfires in the winter, walking barefoot climbing the piles and sliding/jumping down. Used to cut thru the pits to go to jr high and high school. I loved that place. I remember when they began to build Kennedy Park. They built low income housing as part of the deal, but if you lived in Sayreville you weren't eligible to rent. I don't know if that policy was changed, but even though I was barely a teen, that was when I realized politics were a lot more complicated than it appeared to be. Sorry for the rant, I appreciate your videos, looking forward to watching more. Thank you!

It’s the area behind Kennedy Park, between there and Main Street. People used to look for amber in there, but I don’t think you are allowed to any more. I vaguely remember hearing something about the housing, but I was young. Not sure about the policy now. They are doing some development of the area, but it has been empty forever. Thanks for watching and commenting. I’ve lived in Sayreville most of my life, so I fly drones here a lot

How much recoil does the ship itself experience? Can the crew feel it?

I’ve been told this before and I mean no disrespect. I had a friend in high school who made the ultimate sacrifice for America and I think about him every Memorial Day. He would want to be remembered and honored, but he would want me, and everyone, to be happy on this day.
